Dark Cabinets with Hardwood floors. Show me your pictures!
Comments (21)Marybeth1, Thanks for letting me know. I wonder if I can find an engineered version of Quartersawn White Oak floors with a Nutmeg stain? I really love the look a lot. I wish I did not have a concrete sub-floor. Do you have any close-up pictures? Your hardwood floors are so rich looking and beautiful. Only a few more weeks I hope until I must make a decision and get started on my floors....See MoreHelp picking a floor stain color for red oak hardwoods!?
Comments (4)Hi John, do you have any photos of the space you could post? That might be helpful. In general, it's trickier to make wood floors work with wood stained cabinets, but I've done it. Since you don't want reddish floors, I'd aim for a cooler brown - more towards a walnut. I would NOT do ebony floors; those super-dark floors are impossible to keep looking clean. They show dust, lint, grass, etc. Also, what stain product is your contractor using? Most come in pre-mixed colors. That may determine the palette you have to choose from. Other stains can be tinted or adjusted if needed. Adding green to a stain color, for example, will help cut the red of the oak floors. You have to go easy though, you don't want to end up with a noticeable green tone. You're welcome to email me directly if you want more info - I don't check messages on here very often. Comments (34)They look gorgeous!! Congrats! Thanks for your reaponse. Im really drawn to the ever classy look of the dark stain with the white kitchen, stairfaces and trim (well have light-medium gray walls with white trim throughout) but am just wondering how it would look with some more gray/weathered/barnwood looking furniture pieces we have. Every time I search for photos of grayish furniture they always show it on lighter floors so just trying to make sure things will tie in together. Thanks!!...See MoreNot liking hardwood floor stain on red oak
Comments (27)SJ we were pretty clear we didn’t want yellow but I’ll ask him exactly what finish he used on that small section. We’re doing water based poly, that much I know. G & S I don’t think he has experience with additives. So maybe my best bet is to sand and restain. I really hate to do that because it will be an extra 1000 and also set our timeline back for the rest of the remodel. But trying to tint it at this point sounds a little risky if it’s not something he’s done. So if we do that sounds like we should try walnut, provincial, antique brown, and Jacobean for a green tint to counteract the red? For the record this is the sample we chose (top one) which is the 50/50 medium brown and gray. To me it looks nothing like how the floors come out....See MoreOak & Broad
