repotting kalanchoe blossfeldiana...
Comments (7)Have new pot(s) & soil ready for the transplant (use well-draining soil mix). Lift carefully (if very large, have someone help you) out of old pot. Knock off old soil-try not to damage roots much. Place in new containers (or old). Pour new soil around roots & then pack in lightly. Water in soil to help settle (gets rid of air pockets too). Don't water again till dry. Not sure what kind of advice you're looking for~this is more or less basic. Without seeing photo of plant in question, this is as good as it gets from me. =) Good luck!...See Morekalanchoe blossfeldiana stem question
Comments (20)Sorry so late in responding ehuns. Once a year, preferably spring, chop the trunk back hard and let it grow out again till the start of next spring, then do it again. This will create taper in the trunk, and encourages growth down low. To create movement in the trunk, cut back to a side shoot that's growing in the direction that you like. When I say cut back hard, I mean real hard, as in the second or third node from soil level. Don't worry if there aren't any leaves present afterwards, for they'll be an explosion of growth at and below the cut point. Give it full sun and plenty of water. Fertilize every other week and don't touch it again until next spring. Good luck....See MoreNeed help with my kalanchoe!!
Comments (7)Broken leaves are mechanical injury, and yes, doggies running around are likely cuprits :). Pest damage would look different. Is there a new leave sprouting from the dark stem? (it looks like that in your last photo - but could be 'optical illusion' :) If there is fresh rot, stem would feel soft if you squeeze it gently. (Sometimes rot dries out -not very often- and stem becomes really dark and kind of crumbly inside.) Old stems on K. blossfeldiana become darker and drier. I usually just snip them off. But if there is a new leave growing, it is still alive. K. blossfeldiana will grow new branches, and old may become long, twisted, woody, and often won't have many leaves (except toward tips). Here is one of my plants getting 'old': I pruned just about all of them:After sitting in that same spot for about a week to callus, they were potted up. Here are few of them about 5 months later in September (after spending summer outdoors, in dappled sunlight):Rina...See MoreKalanchoe blossfeldiana leaf cuttings - Will these root?
Comments (16)Thanks, Kara. The cuttings (in the cups) are already showing signs of rooting - new leaf growth at the nodes. Absolutely nothing happening with the separated leaves laying flat on soil, though. If they were to root in four weeks, I would be thrilled. I'll try not to look again for awhile. By the way, that soil on which the flat leaves are laying has gone completely dry. Should I remist or anything? Would it involve picking up the leaves and then putting them back in place? Remist with the leaves in place? Or just leave it all dry as a bone? Thanks! Carol...See Morewildhyacinth
