Please help me identify these hostas

Hi all,

Hoping you can help me name these hostas. The first one was here when I moved in 10 years ago and it's probably much older than that. I have divided it three times and it always quickly grows into a huge mound. It has pale lavender flowers on a 18-24" stock. Great hosta.

This lovely blue one is also a vigorous grower. I got a few starts from a neighbour and it is all over the yard now. Flowers are pale mauve, almost white.

And this last one, I was told was Francis Willliams. Is that correct? It has white flowers.

first one.. albomarginata ... cant remember its first name ... fortunei ???

might help to try this again.. when the leaves are fully unfurled.. and throw a scale in ,....

does the third one brown out a bit???? .. like almost every other FW in the world?? ...

Your most reliable source would be the builder of that model home. Since it is new there should be no problem finding the reference number.

Beth, I went through Don R. Fragrant list and looked at a couple, like Sweetness for example...but am not familiar enough with a lot on the list to zero in on particulars that may fit the bill. If you have the time and inclination, you could go through one by one, narrowing the field by eliminating obvious references to names like "blue" or "gold" etc. Chances are you might find it. :-)

glad we cleared that up for you dj ... honeybells dates back to the 1950s .... when i was a name collector.. i had to have them all .. lol ... HB is just another green ... fragrant ... non 6 inch white flower plant .. wouldnt be surprised if it has some purple in the bud.. that fades on opening ... and frankly .. they all end up looking alike .... to a great degree ... name collecting takes one.. to look alike duplicates .... that end up being a waste of money ... but to a nomenclature peep.. and a name collector ... they are different plants ... ken

Barb, I think this #2 blue is a tad too large in the leaves - not sure about the corrugation either. My BC's aren't corrugated but I better double check, lol. I don't have a guess for this one :(

I agree with MK and Ken - #1 = Albomarginata for the first one. Ken, I don't know how to tell UA apart from Fortunei...I have UAs in my garden.

#3 sure looks like a FW! and a nice mature division too! Spectacular! One of my faves.

Thanks all. I think the blue is not BC as it gets very large...2-3 ft across on even a new division. The undulata albomarginata ID seems to fit. Ken, not too much browning on the "FW" but last year it was in pretty deep shade. We'll see how it does with a bit more sun.

thanks for the compliment Josephine. The slugs haven't found them yet...they're too busy decimating my Jack Frost brunerra. No blooms this year and it usually has a ton. :(
