Some knowledge and advice about dressing table

I bought a queen anne style dressing table that I am thinking of restoring. Can anyone recognise its age and what it might be worth restored? It has wood carving to the tops of the legs, some at the front and the top of the mirror. The mirror has a bevelled edge. The draws are dovetailed. The table is not 'heavy' and there is a lovely curve on the table top for a stool or chair to fit.

How would I best go about restoring it? The last coating of varnish on it looks poorly applied and thick so I was going to strip it back and sand it as best I can and then restain and varnish. Does anyone have any tips for me or things to watch out for as I am thinking it will be a big job.
