Need Help, Avocado plant problems.

I have an avocado plant that I've grown from a pit as of last spring, officially making it about a year old. around September when i moved about 6km away from my previous place i noticed my avocado's leaves flopping greatly. slowly but surely the leaves fell off. I though this to be normal and it would grow more eventually and come back to life in spring. However, as the year has passed I've noticed it try to grow more leaves and they wilt and die rather fast. I do not think this is normal. I'm not sure what to do at the moment but the stem itself looks to be alive, yet no leaves grow. I've added a photo of my current view of the plant. It sits in a 12 inch deep terracotta pot at the moment on my deck, it gets a good amount of sun every day and i water it accordingly. I gave it some fertilizer in September and i have added sea soil on top a few days ago. please help me.

Avocados are very cold sensitive. They can't handle the cold very well. If the stem is alive it will probably come back, but it may be better to move it back inside and give it a lot of light and a little bottom heat to warm its toes up.

...... soil also looks very compacted, which means it will hold a LOT of water. Roots need oxygen as much as they need water, so you might consider monitoring your watering very carefully so you're not watering until the plant actually NEEDS water. Use a wooden dowel rod (from hardware or big box store) sharpened in a pencil sharpener to test for moisture by pushing it deep into the pot and then removing. Inspect the tip for signs of moisture. If it's dirty or obviously wet, withhold water until it comes out clean and dry. Too much water causes the same drought response as not enough water because water uptake is an energy-driven process that must take place in the presence of oxygen. No oxygen = no water uptake = drought response = shedding of foliage because the plant "thinks" it's dying of thirst.

Hi.....I always have problems with succulents here in MN.. theres just not enough sun inside in the winter....I try to keep them in a south window and water very little, just enough to keep them alive, and then come summer get them outside as soon as I can....yours is stetching for more light and the roots for more water.....try watering just a bit more and try to get it more light...good luck...linda I am southwest metro how about you?

Andreark, if that nursery is anything like the one near me, their main money-making season has passed and they probably don't give the roses a lot of care anymore. The nursery near me literally has hundreds of roses that were gorgeous all spring and summer, but now look pretty rough. I think Michael is right and if you just water it after planting and give it a little "love" it will be fine. You're going to like that potting soil, I sure do!

One of these vines on a trellis would tolerate your sunny location. If you decide to use a vine, I would locate the trellis as far from the house as possible, to clear the overhang. A lattice trellis can be constructed from 1"x2"x6' lumber and mounted on fence posts, either wood or steel. Treat the wood with a preservative or 2-3 coats of marine varnish (or polyurethane) before attaching the vine. I would install a drip irrigation or soaker hose to provide water, until any plant you install, become established. Confederate Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides 'Madison') - Very fragrant! Well, since there's no big loss if it doesn't work, how about re-potting it in a very well draining mix, and putting it outside for more light. If it's been inside a long time, set it out in the sun slowly, like a couple hours the first day, then back in a shady spot (but still outside) more hours the second and so on over the course of a week or so. That way you'll not shock it or sunburn the leaves. Also, don't fertilize after re-potting until you see new growth, then use a good liquid citrus food at half strength. Avocados don't need a lot of humidity, they like it just fine but they don't NEED it. If they did they would not grow in areas like Southern California, which is basically a desert. So I wouldn't worry about that if I were you. And I would snip off that brown tip just past it and into the green trunk. I've found brown tips like that just keep going unless you cut them off. It might still come back, imo, 50-50% chance.
