Are you quilting this weekend? April 20-22
Comments (15)The day is winding down, and I'm feeling good about the quilting I've gotten done. My main project this weekend was to get my crazy quilt done, and I only have to sew on the binding tomorrow, and it'll be finished. A while back I got this crazy idea to make a crazy quilt out of sections of fabric I had already quilted but never used. I dug them out, cut a few into squares, triangles, and odd shapes, and pinned them to the quilted backing I was using. Instead of making crazy-quilted blocks, I did the whole quilt at one time. Joann's carries quilted batting which has fabric on both sides, and it was perfect for this project. When I sewed each piece onto the quilt, I was also doing my quilting, doing two steps at once. I rather like how it turned out, and if I can find a way to put it all in one picture I'll post one tomorrow once it's finished. I made it into a longer queen-sized quilt. The only bad part about it all was trying to fit all that quilt into my little singer sewing machine when I needed to get into the middle of the quilt to sew a seam. But, even though I had the "help" of my two cats, I prevailed and it's done. I think I'll wait awhile before I try this idea again...lol!...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? April 4-6
Comments (15)Thanks to everyone who responded about me sewing through my finger the other weekend... I got a cold or allergy attack right after that and didn't spend much time on the computer, but the finger has healed completely with no infection and I'm back to sewing... so glad I wasn't too traumatized to sew ever again! I literally *just* finished the a tote bag for an aunt whose birthday was December 11th... I was going to make a wall hanging, but after about 4 tries, I never got anything I was happy with, so I did a tote instead... I finally got all my "free favors" for friends done... hemmed pajamas, embroidered over a hole in some pants, and reversed a button and hole to turn a woman's jacket into a man's... I have a picture of the embroidery... my friend found some nice pants at a thrift store and the only problem was a hole in the back... so I gave him a link to check out some embroidery designs and this is what he chose... a cowboy hat... Here's the tote... I'm going to Heat N Bond a heart and the aunt's name (that I will embroider on another piece of fabric) and call it done... Every bit of the fabric was stuff I inherited from my grandmother... hopefully she's smiling down, glad it's being put to good use....See MoreWeekend quilting plans April 2-3
Comments (9)Wow, the weekend is almost over ... I didn't think I would get to quilt at all but that changed today. Friday night an open house at church, Saturday the weather was fabulous yesterday so we were out & about - then to hockey playoff game (our Colorado Eagles won in overtime so they are tied 1-1 in a best of 5 series). Today the storm arrived SEVERAL hours early so I finished machine quilting a twin size quilt and will hand stitch the binding while we watch a movie later. I'm actually thankful for the icky weather for more than quilting reasons. There is a wildfire burning about 10 miles outside of town - 4500 acres & 15 homes destroyed so far - so the cold weather, rain/snow mix has helped some. If the wind would just quit! Comments (17)I always wonder what you all do for a living. Jackie, I can't imagine working 16 hour days all week. I have the apron done for my little mentee and I cut out two more blocks for December. I had scorched some fabric, so I soaked it in vinegar. I haven't looked in the dryer yet to see if it is OK. The funniest thing I did was cook the Thanksgiving turkey. No, it wasn't the plan. However, my fridge was full so when I brought it home, I set it on the screened porch since it was freezing out. However, once the dog realized there was a turkey on the porch, I guess it didn't matter it was frozen, she wouldn't stop whining at the door. So I moved it to the hood of my car in the attached garage, which I figured was cold enough to keep it frozen. My husband took my car to gas up and brought the turkey into the house. When I came downstairs I discovered it had totally thawed in the garage. I am so glad he brought it in. This was 3 1/2 hours ago and I just took it out of the oven. I'll dismember it and freeze it and heat up in the gravy for Thanksgiving. I just hope it doesn't turn out dry, we take our turkey very seriously at Thanksgiving....See Morejackier123
