He was only 57! They said it was from an illness he got a week ago. I liked some of his earlier songs.

This has been a terrible year. Prince has been touring, and was to come to Toronto. What a shock.

Very sad. He had the flu according to the news. That can quickly turn to pneumonia and congestive heart failure if not taken care of. He was one of the younger artist inducted into the music Hall of fame. He was a great musician as well as singer and writer. A big loss.

Yes, very sad. I really like him back in the 80s when I was in college. We are the same age! scary. I always get really irritated when people say they have "the flu". No, you usually don't. The flu is a deadly virus and can kill easily, although it is usually the very old and very young. I had the flu once, when I was in my late 30's. I was off work for 6 weeks, after it turned into double pneumonia. RIP, Prince. Many good memories of dancing to your songs.

So sad about losing Prince. He's another great talent who still had so much yet to give us.

Prince was the '80's to me. He was brilliant and revolutionary.

Prince was such a slight man. His reserves perhaps just couldn't sustain him through the illness.

He lived close to my area, when I lived in Minnesota. I never saw him, but knew his area - very sad loss.

There is no Vanity. There was a group of Prince protegees which included Apollonia Kotero and Sheila E. I believe Denise Mathews was a later member of that group and she is the one who died. In February

Oops, I mis-wrote. Denise did go by the name of Vanity (named by Prince). There also was a vanity 6.

And now they're saying he OD'ed on Percocet 6 days before he died.

That's what I heard. He OD'ed a week before...even wrote his own memoirs before dying.

They just had a press conference saying it wasn't suicide. I read that Prince had hip problems and needed surgery. He had converted to the Jehovah Witness religion and wasn't allowed to have a blood transfusion. I don't think of Prince as a drug addict. He had aged too well for that. It's possible he was in severe pain. Of course, I read he died of HIV related problems and also he had epilepsy and the flu kept him from eating which triggers the epilepsy. Lots of rumors out there.

I'll wait for the autopsy and drug report.

I wasn't terribly familiar with Prince's work, but I
have become sort of a fan of Prince himself since his death. He was a music genius. But more importantly, he was a decent, kind, generous man, a vegan who supported animal anti-cruelty efforts.
