can you mix different window and door casings in one house?
Comments (4)appreciate your help everyone. I WILL do this, and thoughtfully, where it makes sense. The one particular doorway is in a vaulted family room adjoining the kitchen. It just looks so so narrow for the height of the room. I wont touch the trim around the doors and windows in the kitchen but will change the rim on this 5 foot opening and the doorway to the dining room which will compliment, I think, the rest of the doors etc. thanks, I just needed a bit of support before we moved forward....See MoreWhat to do with space between window casing and upper cabinets
Comments (4)I prefer a bit of breathing room between cabs and window/door casings so wouldn't re-do to push cabs to your casings. I have situation around my corner pantry casing that caused me to pause. Because of some framing issues, the exposed wall around the casing is small and not symmetrical on both sides. Instead of narrow, assymetrical strips of wall paint used elsewhere in the space, I painted them the trim color (also the cab color) so it all blends in together. In your case, I would paint with your wall color....See MoreOptions for wood window casings and wood doors
Comments (11)Are there any products out there that would help to tone down the redness? Or is this a job that will require sanding down to the bare wood and refinishing from there? I know its wishful thinking but I am hoping there is some kind of greenish toner out there to neutralize the red that would be easy to apply? A girl can dream right?? I have read about gel stains and feel they might work on the doors but I would really prefer for the doors and windows to match. Further, do you think this is a project my husband and I could tackle or does it appear to require professional assistance?? I don’t really have much experience with stain, but hopefully someone who does— like Beth —will chime in. However, if you want to paint them, that can easily be done by a non-professional. It’ll be very time consuming, and you gotta know what you’re doing, of course, but it can be done. Can you and your husband and your dads do it? That I cannot answer for obvious reasons. Could I do it? Yes. Would I do it? Hell no! With as many windows and doors as I have, that would take forever!! ;) How many do you have, btw? Are any windows located in hard to reach places? That might make a big difference....See MoreReplacing old, narrow window casings. What to do about the sills?
Comments (3)They are pretty simple to replace. They are easy to remove and easy to reproduce in most cases. This would be be a simple task for an experienced trim carpenter. Takes about 3 minutes to make one if you Making more than one And have the proper Equipment....See MoreILoveRed
