Organic Compost ingrediants
Comments (5)You can get as picky as you want to be. I'd avoid grass clippings from a yard that used weed and feed/ chem lawn pesticide sprays, etc. The chicken manure may have antibiotics, etc. but I really don't feel qualified to give advice on that as I have no idea of half live of these ingredients. I never add lime unless the soil PH demands it. Try and go natural, and remember that composting does tend to neutralise ingrediants; but if you know something has been poisioned; don't use it. You'll learn as you go; the important thing is to make compost now and refine your techiniques/ recipes as you go. If an ingredient feel "bad" to you skip it for now. I just looked over your list and you might want to get more information on just what that top soil really is. The name sounds so nice, but ask where it comes from as it could be a waste of $...Just my humble 2 cents. Coffee grounds are great in my book; same for all veggie scraps, leaves, straw. Glad to hear you want to go organic; hopefully we can heal the earth one convert at a time. Good luck and let us know how things go. Each of us learn daily. Comments (8)The original poster said that he/she was looking to make good compost without access to manure or legumes and in my oppinion the advice of just piling up what they had is the correct answer. You can't make compost out of what you don't have only of what you do. I think Lazy was basically saying not to worry , compost happens. but to make an effort of adding ideas the four biggest cash crops in Bolivia are soybeans, coffee , sugarcane and coca so if the poster is close to anywhere that processes these things he might be able to have access to the waste products of these. Also if they are near a slaughterhouse or poultry plant blood or feathers are a good source of nitrogen....See More3 ingredient ice cream - anyone tried orange???
Comments (16)I made orange ice cream on Wednesday, but didn't use the 3-ingredient recipe. Finally took a picture of it so I could post on this thread. I don't have the Ben & Jerry's book, but found this (recipe below) on-line and it referenced the Ben & Jerry's book. It's very easy to make, but a bit different from the recipe Linda posted. I added the mint for a little bit of color. The three volunteer guinea pigs who tasted it said it reminded them of the Creamsicles/Dreamsicles of their youth. Apparently, the Creamsicle & Dreamsicle both have a sherbet shell but the Creamsicle has ice cream in the center, and the Dreamsicle has ice milk in the center. Orange Cream Dream Ice Cream from Ben & JerryÂs Ingredients: ⨠1/3 cup Orange juice concentrate; thawed ⨠2 teaspoons Vanilla ⨠2 cups heavy cream or whipping cream ⨠3/4 cup Sugar ⨠2/3 cup Half and half (I added 2 T vodka to keep it from getting icy) Directions: Pour the cream into a mixing bowl. Whisk in the sugar, a little at a time, then continue whisking until completely blended, about 1 minute more. Pour the half and half and whisk to blend. Add the juice concentrate and vanilla and blend. I added the vodka at this step. Transfer the mixture to an ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer's instructions. Makes about 1 qt....See More3 Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe
Comments (14)Mammie, i did use Splenda, since my DH is diabetic. But I used a whole cup before I saw Patti's post about using 3/4 cup. She had also mentioned adding Vanilla, but we just ran out, I think I will add a little next time though. These cookies were very good, so easy, and quick to do. . I am going to email this recipe to my 10 yr old DGS, he is a good cook, he made little pecan tarts for our Christmas lunch and i just sent him the No Bake, Cocoa Oatmeal cookie recipe too....See MoreUser
