Fish Emulsion vs. Fish Fertilizer
Comments (12)The main bed I've put them in is roughly 20x24. I've been doing it for a few years. What happens is that my brothers ice fish, so they save all their guts for me, and i just build up a good pile. In spring they thaw out, my garden thaws out and I bury them about a foot down. My nutrient levels are probably through the roof. Its amazing that most of the fish is just tossed in the garbage. You guys are right about animals. I swear my neighbor dog was digging in my fish guts a few years back after i had buried them. An option would be to put down a big board or some heavy fencing (cattle panel) over the top of the guts for a few weeks....See MoreFish fertilizer vs. Fish & Seaweed Fertilizer?
Comments (12)Michaelg, I feed the roses that arrived last year as bands, and are planted, weakly weekly (hit or miss), with fish emulsion. I got it in my head somewhere that is was a fertilizer safe enough for me to use on the bands and own root 1 gallon roses. It is a real pain, as everything else is fed Rose Tone that goes around the bush root zone. Using Rose Tone is a much easier process compared to mixing up the fish emulsion in a 2 gallon bucket over and over, and dividing it among these own root roses planted in various places throughout my yard. I do not have a hose end sprayer, as all I saw at the big box store was a M.G. version that came complete with their fertilizer which I did not purchase. My poorly communicated evolving question is when can I stop using fish emulsion and feed all of the roses Rose Tone, or is it more beneficial to switch to fish emulsion/seaweed, or do some of you all go back and forth between both? Also, in the past, on established roses at previous homes, I used granular fertilizer, but never during June, July, through mid August. Are products like fish emulsion or Rose Tone safe to use when it is hot? I am guessing that the application rate is decreased if so? Lynn...See MoreTwo days in a fish bowl...
Comments (20)Let me add my congrats to the list!! I can't wait to see some pics of your new place once you're in! (hint hint ;-) I'm also a huge fan of the magic eraser...did you know that if you go onto the Procter and Gamble website you can get a free one as a 'sample' (only it's full sized instead of the dinky little samples you get of most things??) I didn't want to bother buying one in case they weren't as good as they said...they sent me one while we were still at our old house, and another one when we moved here. They work great!! A cleaning 'must have' imho...that and washable crayons!! LOL on your agent!! Don't you just love people who don't get jokes...I kind of wish we were on the list of people moving...I like our house, but the town is trying to rezone the field accross from us into "heavy industrial"...yeah...one of the main reasons we bought the place was because it was on the edge of town and we could watch the sunsets and have less traffic :-p If they push it through, I'll likely try to convince DH that northern SK is the way to go. HELLOOOO FARM!! Guess we'll see...if it happens I'll have to get tips from all you pros ;-)...See MoreBaby Fish Quilt Finished
