Comments (8)What a cool idea! We installed a concrete sink in our bathroom, which I really like. Before we decided on the contour version, I was collecting pictures of concrete sinks and countertops with fossils and glass embedded in them. There are lots of companies out there that do this, so you might find someone with more experience. Pictures can be deceiving, but the ones below look like they are smoother than the sample you have. Finally, the architect who made our sink said that the concrete sink manufacturers willingly shared information about the process. So an alternative might be for your guy to talk with someone with more experience. Here are the examples, with the websites, plus our bath sink at the end. These first two are from MarkConcrete.com From Concrete Countertops From Concrete Countertops This is from CraftWorkHome.com From Concrete Countertops This is from dccyf.com From Concrete Countertops Another sea glass example, this one from slab-lab.com From Concrete Countertops This is not the picture I wanted, but take a look at the website. This company makes beautiful countertops. I just couldn't grab the picture I wanted! MilestoneConcrete.com/gallery.html (Be sure to use the "gallery.html" extension.) From Concrete Countertops Finally, here's our concrete sink. This pix was taken when we were trying to decide what to do about a backsplash. We ended up just keeping the painted wall. Comments (32)Have you thought about dying the concrete a sandy color? I think gray could be beachy, too, but it's a thought. I think I'd skip the mosaic tiles and just continue your subways into the niche. I love the look of the seaglass in the jar. Your tiles already seem sea glass inspired, IMO. If you used the sea glass in the backsplash, how do you picture it? Surrounded by a square of mosaic tiles? Free form circle? Other? I'd try drawing it out or laying tiles out to get a really clear picture of your options. The above picture from houzz looks kind of like they filled a glass shadowbox with sea glass and then made a niche for it in the wall. I'm linking to a pintest page with seaglass. There's a really cool candle holder that might be a potential light idea (as someone mentioned above), and also a shadowbox and window. Here is a link that might be useful: Pinterest: Seaglass...See MoreCrazy kitchen ideas... encourage me? talk me down?
Comments (49)I think you do get it, innately, not because of something I said. I don't think stoicism or rigidity precludes color. The counter or a block of the cabinets could be purple...the minimalists worked in color, after all . But I think what you don't want is extraneous ornament. To go back to the Pop Art idea, ...I think if it was really Pop Art, the Dishwasher would look like a box of Brillo Pads or something. To me, words like "Just Chill" --I think this is extraneous ornament, and it also reminds me too much of "Friends Gather Here" on a plaque or something. Bob Venturi would probably love the idea of wrapping a film around everything, but Venturi isn't a modernist. This thread has really made me think about the Concetto countertops and why I don't quite like them...because I want to like them on some level. But I think it is because they aren't quite real. If you did a purple Pyrolave countertop, the color would be the shape and the object, and the shape and the object would be the color. All of a piece. But the Concetto material is kind of aspic of sorts with bits and pieces of real semiprecious stone kinda blobbed together in resin . It's like expensive head cheese. If it were all one piece, like a big slab of marble that is a solid object in and of itself, that would be different....See MoreReady to replace the sofa. Is red too crazy?
Comments (31)Pillow fabric, auntthelma, is perfect for your B&B. I just saw it on a chair. Is there a Bernie & Phyl’s in Maine? They carry this new line of furniture “England” but made in the US. I think you could call it semi-custom, as the springs in the cushions can be chosen for feel and no upcharge for Sunbrella. The cost for 2 sofas, loveseat, 5 x 8 wool rug was $3,000.00, then 12 % off , then anther promotional discount. Sofas came in at around $888.00 in Sunbrella (gorgeous fabric texture) and two pillows, in chose of fabric (about 80/100 choices). It was a very good day for my clients. I’ve got Maine on my mind as I am in the middle of the newest Olive Kitteridge book....See Moresuziqzer1
