Bobbie, my friend, you may be right. Who knows? However, if you download a laundry list all at once and have to reboot doesn't it seem a little logical that the reconfiguration could be placed in jeopardy with all the "floating" uninstalled O/S data? Also, if you limit the update installs and there is a concern you can readily identify the offender as one of two rather than speculating over an extended list. My antique DUN rate of 3 minutes a MB does not make it pleasant to have to redo any downloads. I am confident that my prior concern was due to doing all at once as when I returned to my personal discipline and installed them in pairs they updated fabulously. Thanks for your point of view. I've got all-clad. And I use it on high heat on a regular basis--so far so good (I've had it for about 6 years). I use metal utensils, as well as silicone (don't like wooden utensils, since they're porous and I'm not comfortable about getting them truly clean). And yes, I've used it in the oven, as well. You shouldn't get burned on spots, if you clean the pieces well after each use. If you do see some of those speckles starting to form, 'scour' the pan with a little baking soda--it takes them right off (would have saved your cookie sheets, if used regularly). Barkeeper's Friend is a good idea, but I only use toxic cleaners as a last resort on surfaces that touch food--baking soda is a better choice--it does an amazing job of cleaning, is non-toxic, non-abrasive, kills germs, deoderizes, etc. It's the first cleaner I reach for in the kitchen as well as the bathroom. One caution--if you're new to All-Clad, and if your previous pans had coated handles. the All Clad handles will get quite hot after a while--be sure to always use a potholder when picking up the pans after they've been on the range.

I did all of the above. While a couple of old sites came up in a search, most of them were still missing. The trouble is that AOL uses IE but also has its own system, which is different. I am able to pull up the IE favorites but not the AOL favorites (which is most of my bookmarked sites). Then I read through all of the tutorials in the AOL Help section that pertain to Favorites. It says that they now use a system that does not save your favorites on your computer. Here is the exact language: Determine if 'Only Store my Favorite Places on my Computer' Is Checked. If it is not checked, it means your Favorite Places are saved online. AOL appreciates your patience during times when popular features may temporarily be unavailable. The AOL® System is sometimes very busy and may experience temporary issues that can lead to delays or slow response. Note: With AOL® 8.0 and higher versions, your Favorite Places are now stored on AOL® servers rather than on your computer. This allows you to access your Favorite Places from any location or computer that you use. For example, if you sign on as a guest on another computer, you will automatically have access to your Favorite Places. Or, if you buy a new computer, you won't have to worry about how to transfer your Favorite Places. I still can't find my Favorites :( I will have to contact AOL again and see if they're stored somewhere in their cybervault.

Just because you got an instruction to install an update doesn't mean it was a legitimate one. Next time be suspicious of things that appear to be official, but could be malware in disguise. I think you are too trusting: "I have no idea what the update was, but it took forever to download and install or whatever they do." Typically when Windows does an update, unless you are set to have all updates automatically installed, you should have the opportunity to review what the update is and make a decision about whether it is something you want to do. The fact that you did not get this option is a clue that you had an infection. What were you doing on the computer just prior to the problem?
