Help in identifying unique plant in landscape

Cory W

We have four of these planted around our house that were here when we bought it in 2011. These are all low growing (about 3 feet tall back then) and haven't gotten much taller in the last five years. Our first spring here (2012) they each put on a few beautiful purple blooms, in clusters of 1-3 per plant. They didn't bloom at all after that until this spring. Now each one has 1-4 clusters. They have a strong, attractive, sweet smell. The leaves are soft green now that harden over the summer, becoming stiff in the fall. They drop during the winter and turn dark green/gray. The blooms weren't damaged by our recent late frost. Any help??
