New Gardener- Help Me Plan My Veggie Layout and general questions

Jason

Hi All,

Im hopefully going to be finishing up building my planters this week and I will then need to plant the vegetables I bought. I was hoping someone can review the different vegetable starters and seeds I have bought and let me know the best plan/combo/layout to plant these. Or give some advice in starting a first garden. I live in the Seattle area if that helps or is needed.

I have a 2'x8'12" raised bed and a 2'x8'20" raised bed. I have the following vegetable starters:

  • Cucumbers
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Zucchini
  • Yellow Squash
  • Butternut Squash
  • Romaine Lettuce
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Peas
  • Green Beans

I have the following in seeds:

  • Carrots
  • Parsnips
  • Pepper variety (jalapeno, habanero, ect).

Lastly, I have some space behind my fence that I can reclaim for some more garden space. But, it is under decent tree coverage and will not gets tons of light. Are there any vegetables above that dont need as much light that might do better back here? Or is there something I can get that will do in light shade (i.e. Rhubarb?)

I appreciate your help and feedback.
