Hi Writersblock! What were you thinking would be a concern? Here's what we know from our install-- let me know if there's something we missed! The edges of the sink when undermounted are the same height as all the cabinets in the sink run, so while the sink probably bears some weight, it bears no more or less than any of the other cabinets in the run. The countertops in ANY sink run aren't supported continuously-- they're supported periodically along the run by cabinet sides. Whether the weight is supported at any particular point by a wooden cabinet edge or a porcelain sink edge shouldn't really matter at any rate-- we're only talking about a few hundred pounds of wood, tile or stone. The only time you'd have a problem is if someone screwed up and raised or lowered a cabinet (or a sink, I guess) so far that you'd cause a stress crack. So as long as all the cabinets and undermount sink are the same level, unless someone did something REALLY strange, havig a thick, sturdy (and the Domsjo is nothing, if not that) porcelain sink bear its fair share of countertop weight shouldn't be worth a second thought.

Does anyone have the exact dimensions of the Domsjo sink? I'm confused about the overall height, the thickness of the rim, and the height of the apron. Hoping someone out there hasn't installed theirs yet or still has the paperwork and can help me. My Ikea is 2 hours away, and before I commit...

Good point. However, I think that the dimensions for that sink have changed a very little bit since they moved from Akurum to Sektion, so it may not be quite so simple to chunk in another one, but I would think you could make it work. Ah, true. I guess it would depend on whether it is the new domosjo or the old. If you know the date the kitchen was installed, that might tell you whether it's the new or old domosjo. Could always take a tape measure to ikea and see if it's the same dimensions as the one in the kitchen or not.

Hi everyone, I have to comment - I too had TWO Domsjo sinks crack. (Double 36 inch). The first crack appeared randomly at the bottom right corner, about 5 inches and a hairline. I did absolutely nothing to create this and was mortified. Luckily after the heavy lifting - 1,5 drive to IKEA they did replace it. Second sink arrived, boom one week in and I suddenly had a massive crack from the faucet to the right sink drain hole. My heart sunk. We really think we did not over-thighten this faucet (we think, but I suppose that area is very thin and very delicate). Today we got our third sink. I love the look of this sink and we designed our kitchen for this to be main view... I am terrified that it will crack again. I am happy to know I am not the only one. I have to say, that this new sink has a minor imperfection (read crack) on the other side/facing the cupboard). What to do, Ikea is 1,5hrs driving and I do not want to lift this heavy beast one more time. I hope we are lucky now, I am going to continue to be extremely careful when I use it. Which is a shame because it is a sink, and a sink should be able to handle some beating (you know, dishes etc). Thanks for reading my blurb, not sure if I would recommend this sink to anyone.
