Comments (3)Animals are so much more perceptive than we are; they can hear our thoughts, but do we ever hear theirs?.. Today there was a story on tv about a Rottweiler who saved her owner's life. She & her owner went for a hike every day. Every single day she got all excited & bounded into the car & they went to a wooded area & took a long hike. One day she hung back & tried to get back in the house & just did not want to go. The owner finally got her in the car & off they went. He had a heart attack on the trail. The dog went & got help. If he'd listened to her, he would have been within reach of the telephone when he had the attack. &, he acknowledged, if she hadn't been with him on the trail, he wouldn't be here today....See MoreHemming Roc Lon Black out lining
Comments (1)I have used Roc Lon blackout and did not hem it. You are correct...it does not fray. Another brand I've also used is Hanes Outblack. It's similar to Roc Lon's budget blackout, but a little softer & more supple/pliable....See MoreRoc, about chenille
Comments (57)Percale..I love percale. I went over on another forum and was reading, I had a great chuckle let me tell you. Someone complains their percale sheets are to noisy (yes Roc, I read it) and I can't believe how many people want cool, crisp sheets from their childhood, think it might be percale so they buy percales than complain about wrinkles...well they can't have 100% cotton percales and not have wrinkles. We all have two choices with percale sheets. Try to smooth them out by hand or iron...some people are quite satisfied with a hand smooth, but I will tell you percale ironed is REAL percale...percale feels much different and much more crisp if ironed. There is a huge difference in how they feel after ironing. Its not about looks..its about feel. I can not sleep on un ironed percales. AJ..I am not putting you down for not ironing yours, not at all...I realize not everyone has the time or desire to iron. If they feel good just with a hand smooth that's all that matters. Just don't start ironing them for awhile than stop, you will notice a huge difference lol and you may never sleep again. Haha....See MoreRoc= Thank You= Stunning
Comments (17)Know I've mentioned that these towels usually smell moldy when they arrive. It's the smell of old stones. So I first soaked it overnight in Proclean then I washed it on hot and dried it. Two hot washes takes care of the odor. Only one time did it require more. Then I washed it again with the metis sheet I'm using as a slipcover for our new sofa with the perls. Then roller ironed it which makes it so stiff. It softens with use but, unlike 100% linen, doesn't wrinkle much. Metis refers to half. Metis is always cotton warp and linen weft. There's a huge variation in the color and texture with these towels. The stripes are jacquard woven and set into to the towel. Believe those are all cotton. Almost always there is a hook sewn into one side, either premade or hand made. The largest towels have two hooks so they don't drag on the floor. This one is an unused towel and vintage. I'm partial to the ones that feel like lightweight smooth canvas. I like the colored insets too. Embroidery is usually red. So are the stripes. No idea why though and cannot find the answer. Sometimes red is worked with green. Newer towels have blue stripes or plaid. These are usually trousseau pieces. Initials are sometimes embroidered on them and they were kept and used for a lifetime. They are getting more scarce, however, because the last generation that embroidered initials -- on towels and on sheets -- is really going and eventually the monogrammed pieces will be gone or so expensive they are simply for collections not for use. These towels will give 2 generations of use. With the ones I've purchased I'm the second generation LOL. I think the French women who marked and used them would be smiling to know they are passed down to women who understand and appreciate them....See MoreMiMi
