Considering adding a master bath- how big to go?
Comments (5)So are you saying that the new space will be 12' x 23', and you want to divide it into bedroom and bath with either the bedroom 12' x 15' and a bathroom 12' x 8', or the bedroom 12' x 14' and the bathroom 12' x 9'? Is this the space you are working with? Sketches of the outside walls with doorways and windows marked would really help. As to a just a simple comment about it being overkill - although it might seem like overkill to you, the next owner may have different feelings. If the layout works well to include all those pieces, I would go for it. Seems like even if it is rarely going to get used, people seem to be excited about a separate tub and shower in the master bath and disappointed when there isn't a separate tub. I think double sinks would be the one area I would skip if I had to. As long as you make the vanity at least 5' wide, someone could come in later and change it out into double sinks if they wanted by just changing out the vanity and some simple plumbing changes to use the existing lines and drain....See MoreMaster Bath Shower - Is it Big Enough?
Comments (18)Sorry, I'm a novice here and can't figure out how to upload pictures, but I'm attaching a link to photobucket. The plan that has the HUGE shower does not have an 'enclosed' toilet. There would be a half wall with decorative frosted glass above to form a translucent screen. I'm not sure this actually works because the toilet area is only 4'5 wide. The plan with the smallest shower is the plan we are working off of at the moment. The plan with the toilet room and shower bisecting the window (we would replace the window with two, one in each area) works best in plan but I'm not sure how I would like it when it was built, with a box-like cube off to the side... Thoughts? I will also post a link to a photo on hgtv.com that was our original inspiration. Thanks to all. Comments (25)The towels look good hanging on the hooks, but it might help to see the actual hooks you're using. Teacats, I love the pictures in your bathroom. This mornings Gordman's ad shows the pictures of the ladies in dresses. The bathroom we're redoing is the main bath for the house and it seems to be on the formal side. I never know how rooms are going to end up they just seem to evolve during the remodeling process. It's really fun to see all these beautiful bathrooms, though. Comments (82)HU-418990949 Our shower is 6 x 5. It is not too big, nor too small. We built it to allow a small wheelchair, plus an extra body to fit in, should we if ever need help. There is a small lip to get in, and a 32" clearance with the door. Without the door, there is 35". Our contractor talked us out of a zero entry because he has seen problems arise with linear drains. There is a wide built-in bench in/under the half wall. We put in a bar that can easily be reached while standing under the shower head, or to help with getting up and down from the bench. We stay plenty warm enough in there even though the ceilings are 10'. The only downside of this shower is the cleaning. However, if the shower were smaller, we would still have about the same amount of wall tile to clean --- minus about a 2' vertical section. The floor space would be smaller, but that's the easy part. Cleaning those large tiles all the way to the ceiling requires a ladder!...See Morechispa
