Comments (4)Go to Walmart. It is 8.27 for 2 cuft of hyponex potting mix. It is in a green bag. It is not the old hyponex in the black bag, this new mix is really good and cheap! My house plants love it. Cant wait to try it outdoor....See MoreStore-bought potting mix suggestions?
Comments (3)Look for a potting mix that says 'professional' on the bag. This is a light mix, and will contain Canadian sphagnum peat moss, usually some composted forest products, a small amount of perlite and/or vermiculite, and a wetting agent. It is not the cheap, heavy dirt-type stuff bagged by the pound. The 'professional' mixes are about as water-retentive as you can get in a potting mix, being mostly peat moss. Be sure to use plastic pots. You might consider finding some self-watering pots that have a wick system in the bottom, these should keep pots constantly moist, I believe. Also, many Aroids will grow quite contentedly in water. Most Philodendrons and Syngoniums will adapt to this readily, and I believe Aglaonemas would be happy with this system too. Comments (7)I would trust what everyone here on the forum says about it, Ladyisz. I know that some of the southern folks, like MissSherry, Cat, and Floridians on the forum, probably know more about whether the PVS cats will be safe on the A. gigantea or not. I recall them saying that A. elegans (Calico pipevine) is not safe, but not sure about A. gigantea. I think Sunlight Gardens is still selling their A. macrophylla if you want to order a couple. They come in quart pots for $10 each, and their shipping is lower than a lot of mail order companies. Also, I got my two A. tomentosas from Mail Order Natives - don't know if they have any left or not. I would be checking really fast, though, because a lot of people are already out of pipevine. Comments (7)Update: I returned them yesterday, was no problem. In fact, they turned around and offered them to someone else in the nursery who was looking for trillium but were sold out -- so they re-sold in less than 5 minutes! (so that 100% alleviated my guilt -- plus I think it might have made that other woman's day, she actually thanked me LOL!)...See MoreMichael
