Worried I Bought the Wrong Potting Mix

Michael

Let me start by saying I have been gardening for years and have had absolutely abysmal results in most cases. I'm at the point where I feel like I should just give up, but that little voice inside me says, "just keep learning and eventually you'll get it." So here I am, humbly asking for your help.

I built a sub-irrigated raised bed this year (this one: http://albopepper.com/SIP-raised-bed.php) and now need to fill it with a potting mix that has proven to work. At his site, Al does talk about the mix he uses, but when I read these forums and see the different threads on mixes, vs soils, bark fines, etc, I'm afraid of making another costly mistake.

I understand that I need a mix, rather than a soil, so I went out and purchased this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Vigoro-32-qt-Potting-Soil-72783920/205653749, but the page refers to it as both a potting mix and soil, so I am not sure which it really is.

What I would really like is a very stupid, simple list of items I can go buy in the Ft. Worth area to fill this bed and the recipe for anything I need to add (lime, etc), to grow some basic veggies like tomatoes, peppers and squashes, hopefully at a reasonable cost.

You may be thinking, "well, Mike, it all depends." That's likely true, but I am not looking for a record-breaking harvest. I simply need to have some measure of success this year, and it needs to be simple.

Please help!
