Golden Oak cabinets/woodwork...What color should Dining Set be?
Comments (9)I just can't get the hang of posting pictures... In the past I'd asked on the kitchen forum about floors. Here's that link with pictures the folks there so graciously posted for me! I've pretty much decided on my Wilsonart Clift Slate laminate tile flooring (gray & brown), so that's what'll be different than these pix.I'm trying for a more contemporary look. (My golden oak stained louvered cabinets were custom built in 1985 and they're so solid and unique I just can't bare changing them... so I'm embracing them : ). Hope this helps explain my situation. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg021253574580.html sheesharee: Once I get my new floor, I'm planning on a rug under the new table like you did. Thanks for posting pix! cathrugg: I LIKE how switching out to black looks! wow ! It's amazing how different it is! The dining set that you get a peak at is just the wrong style for me. It is oak, not very vibrant at this stage, so I'm passing that down to one of my kids who's just starting out : ) I think because it's some kind of stain that is like ashy or something, it doesn't match real well for some reason, hence my question. : /...See Morepaint colors to go with golden oak trim
Comments (21)Lafonda-the red is one of my favorite choices I made. Makes me happy, even when I'm doing laundry! It is BM Raspberry Truffle and the ceiling is SW Believeable Buff (looks similar to SW Blonde with my lighting). The raspberry truffle is great, not too blue, not too pink, it's seems to be a very true shade of red. Thank you for the wonderful compliments! You're very sweet!...See MoreGolden oak kitchen updates!
Comments (14)I also vote you should wait. Your user name is "3 boys for me," which says to me that you have a lot of action going on in that kitchen to get those boys fed. I have two boys and a girl so I can relate. One thing your kitchen has going for it is all that storage. If you don't have teens yet, they go through a lot of cereal (as just one example). I am not the layout guru some are. But I can see that it's a country mile from the table to the fridge for a gallon of milk, and the microwave is even farther. Plus, all the non-cooks in the family would be getting in the way of the cook. The other obvious thing I notice is that you don't appear to have a decent range hood (maybe a downdraft). Would encourage you to build a layout of your current kitchen. Measure the wall lengths, the cabinet lengths etc and write them all in. Scan it in and put it on a photobucket account. From there, it's pretty easy to load it onto this thread. I would actually start this process now and take 1-2 years to really figure out what you want. One thought I have is that you could potentially save a lot of those cabinets (especially the boxes) and reconfigure them into a new layout. Good luck!...See MoreHardwood flooring with existing golden oak trim and cabinets
Comments (14)Here is a photo with a floor with color and grain similar to your samples next to oak cabinets. It's too busy and the stain undertones clash. You need to start looking at a different part of the flooring store. Try samples with less prominent grain and not as much stain color variation. I hate to keep raining on your parade but light gray paint and white/gray stone will not look good with orange oak. You are mixing warm and cool colors. Even though gray and wood tones are both considered "neutral", they don't usually play nice together. Here is an oak with light spice stain. It is from Bruce....See Morelocaleater
