Testing Ignition and Safety Switches for MTD mower
Comments (16)I'd like to add my story to this thread. I had the same problem. Turned the key, nothing worked. Check out all wires - multiple times - and everything checked out. Finally, after disassembling most of the engine compartment, I noticed that the button in the safety switch on the blade engagement arm didn't seem to be pushed in all the way. After playing with the arm - forcing it all the way back toward the seat - I got current and was able to start the mower. Turns out, there is a spring underneath the mower, above the mower deck, whose sole purpose in life it to keep tension on the arm so it will properly depress the button when disengaged. In this case, that spring had broken. I saw it handing underneath and figured it had nothing to do with the safety system because it didn't seem to serve a purpose. Wrong assumption, obviously....See MoreFord focus, key will not turn.
Comments (32)This time last year this happenend to me, wd-40 did not work! After $300 and a lot of time on-line, I got a refund check for $215 from Ford. This is a common problem! A couple of other things to watch for is the rear wheel bearings it is also common for them to wear out, The wheel bearing are covered under 100,000 mile warranty, however, according to Ford the wheel bearing cannot be purchased alone, it comes in a hub assembly which is not covered! Tricky! They ended replacing both rear wheel bearings for the deductible of my warranty $100 vs $250 each! The other is the head. Took the car in for scheduled oil change and found the head was warped. They fixed it, the next week after finding oil under the car, they replace our engine. Good Luck!...See More1990 Ford F150 ignition sticking
Comments (2)I'm in the process of replacing the ignition switch in a 93 F-150. It started acting wierd in that the key wouldn't insert right and then wouldn't turn. The key was getting bent trying to accomodate itself to the offset between the "ears" that you turn and the key slot itself. Check out the link for the process. FWIW I called Ford and the price of the part was $87. Autozone sells an aftermarket replacement for $23. I went cheap because I don't want to spend a lot of money either. Comments (73)I should have mentioned that over here we have ante-natal classes that first time mothers are encouraged to attend. Nurses discuss how to bath/feed/change a baby etc and what will happen during labour, breathing techniques . . . all believed by the lambs going to slaughter! After the mother is back home she is visited daily by a 'Health Visitor' for, I think, 10 days. She weighs the baby and generally checks that everything is OK. Of course these days, not only are husbands encouraged to be present at the birth, which some may see as a mixed blessing, but are allowed a couple of weeks off work to help at home. I found the best advice I received was from a part-time nurse at our local hospital. She said when 'burping' a baby, instead of putting it against your shoulder and patting it on its back, until it vomits down your neck, sit it on your knee holding its back and neck so they are in a straight line, with your other hand holding its head level. And bingo! It burps straight away; even the smallest baby. Another excellent idea was when bathing a new-born baby . .. instead of putting it in the water facing upwards when it straight away goes into a sort of spasm with feet and legs stuck out . . .put it gently into the water on its front, just holding it by the chin and it will be much calmer and go through 'swimming' motions. If anyone has a spare baby knocking about at home try these; they really do work. Cindy the 'rooming in' idea was all the rage when I had my three. Except that in the UK no one has individual rooms (unless there is some big problem) you are in open wards of about 6-8 beds. So, not only do you have your own little bundle of joy to attend to and listen to in the dark in case it has stopped breathing (remember that?) but all the others as well. One starts to cry, they all cry . .. and cry. The hospital had plenty of nursery facilities but chose not to use them; I never found out what the nurses did. By the time I got home I was exhausted through lack of sleep....See Morenewhostalady Z6 ON, Canada
