GE profile double oven gas range vs. GE cafe double oven range
Comments (5)I went with the Profile double-oven gas: here are my reasons. I like the smaller-size top oven for daily use, and the lower oven will only be used on occasion, so I'm ok with its location. (There's no room for a wall oven in my tiny kitchen -- and I have no plans to tear out cabinets and rearrange.) I'm a good cook, and I honed my skills on low-end domestic ranges because that's what was available: I don't need a commercial range to cook what I like, and I'm too busy with other aspects of my life to change my cooking style now. I also prefer not to deal with "pro" level BTUS and the ventilation complications they might add. I also am not willing to give up self-cleaning ovens -- which puts many pro-style ranges out of contention. I liked the slide-in setup and the angled control-knob location on the Profile, so that, and the price advantage, led me to choose it over the Cafe. Re: price, I bought mine from a local dealer, and I got the price down a bit by asking them to meet the ajmadison.com price. They didn't quite get there, but I was willing to pay a little extra for local sales/delivery/service reliability. Everyone's situation is a little different, but I found that the Profile slide-in fits best with my kitchen and the way I use it....See MoreLooking for reliable double oven for non-baker
Comments (6)It is overwhelming. I would stick with the basic double models no matter which brand you go with. Sounds like you don't need convection or a probe or anything like that. Most of the chronic problems with ovens have been in high end brands, although Whirlpool was having issues with the self clean cycle blowing a thermal fuse a while back, but those have been fixed. However, now there have been some complaints about the fans being noisy in the new Whirlpool ovens. I assume you want stainless steel, 30 inches? I'll also assume you want self cleaning in both ovens, not just the top. Here are some models to check out. I also included pllog's recommendations above, which seem to be great ovens from the feedback we've gotten here on GardenWeb, but I think might be a little overkill for you. Electrolux EI30EW45JS - MSRP $3199 (also makes Frigidaire listed below) Electrolux EW30EW65GS - MSRP $3549 (same as above but has cooler "wave touch" control panel that lights up only the controls that are needed and fades out when not being used) Fisher & Paykel OB30DDEPX2 - couldn't find MSRP but most places online had it for $4699 Bosch HBL5551UC - MSRP $2599 GE JT3500SFSS - MSRP $2299 Frigidaire FFET3025LS - MSRP $2099 (being phased out) Frigidaire FFET3025PS - newer version of above (they are switching factories) Kenmore 49443 - MSRP $2299 (same as above) Whirlpool WOD51EC0AS - MSRP $2099 Maytag MEW7630AS - they're phasing it out (same thing inside as above, but different look) Maytag MEW7630DS - MSRP $2149 (new version of above, they're changing the look) This post was edited by hvtech42 on Sun, Jul 6, 14 at 15:02...See MoreHigh-end oven question: Who makes the best convection ovens?
Comments (67)Speak for yourself, Homechef! I always noticed and worked with the temperatures in my old ovens! S What!, the microwave is good for a fast heat of a single thing at a time. For reheating mixed foods or several portions nothing beats a steam oven! Kim Laden, those instructions are shocking! I understand choosing an oven if there are two timers. The rest sounds like they didn't even test it during the design phase. Like with someone who cooks dinner. What model were you looking at? I just had to see for myself and looked up the manuals at AJMadison (which loads faster than Bosch): Bosch Benchmark Series HBLP651UC The kitchen timer can also be set by pressing the clock/timer touchpad at the left of the control panel. The timer input “00:00” value blinks in the center of the display. Enter the desired timer value with the numeric touchpads and press “Enter” to start the timer Bosch Benchmark Series HBLP651LUC Sideswing is the same. Cancel by touching the kitchen timer softkey or opening the door. That's the part I don't like. Losing the timer when you open the door. But that might mean that the sound of a finish timer ends then, not that it resets. I don't know. One could ask the forum. I know there are owners here. There is also something called an "oven timer" which will turn off the oven when it hits zero....See MoreHigh end Wall Ovens w IKEA Cabinets...weight?
Comments (10)We discovered yesterday that there is a mystery part of the double wall oven cabinet that you only learn about in the instruction manual for their Nutid oven. Basically the shelf that the oven will rest on is not the standard one that comes with a Sektion cabinet, but a special reinforced shelf that has ventilation in the back and comes with special brackets for holding the shelf. You can see it in the Nutid instructions here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/assembly_instructions/nutid-double-oven__AA-1350164-3_pub.pdf. The part is called the Utrusta reinforced cabinet shelf and the part number is 902.656.23. My contractor was really worried about the cabinet supporting the weight of my oven until we discovered that we hadn't been advised to get this additional piece. I don't know what the weight rating is for it and we've got a Kitchen Aid double oven (which is only 320 lbs). But, this is one thing to be aware of.......See Morecpartist
