Painting over very old creosote stained wood

I inherited my grandmothers farmhouse that was built from wormy chestnut and poplar. The outside wood was coated with a creosote and used motor oil mixture almost 85 years ago and has never been touched since in terms of paint and is also still in very good condition. I would like to paint over the dreary color and brighten it up (white or gray), but didn't know if after all these years if the creosote would still bleed through? Would an oil based paint work? Thanks!
