Advice needed: shrubs for privacy pics

Hello,

we purchased a house last summer and we are now thinking
about building some more privacy on two sides of the yard. Location is New
Jersey, zone 7a.

The yard (coming from the house)faces south. We get good
drainage as there is a small brook right behind our property line with a good
incline towards it.

The back side of the yard has some trees but they are too
tall for a good screen. My research so far has suggested supplementing the
trees with possibly limelight hydrangeas or laurels, but I am not sure if there
are other options that would work better in the partial shade. I have attached
3 pictures of this side of the yard – two of them were taken last summer to
show the gaps in foliage and the third one was taken today.

The second place where we would like more privacy is the
east side of our yard. Our current neighbor has some low growing shrubs there
but they serve more to mark the property line than as any sort of privacy wall.
What would be your suggestion for privacy shrub or tree? Ideally we would like
something tall and narrow with little maintenance and fast growth. We were
thinking about Aborvitae green giant or emerald green but then I saw that the
Laurel can also serve as a privacy fence... (please see the last picture with the short shrubs). What
would be the best one for the space?
