Start your "desensitization" to color with a white bowl filled with lemons and oranges. Get used to that. Then go from there. I'm not a fan of "centerpieces" for islands. Islands are a work zone and a dining zone and there is usually not really room for such. Hello friends. I am afraid I need your help once again! We have finally settled on a new sofa, accent chairs and the place we are getting all of this from has agreed to also throw in a rug for us if I happen to like one from their suppliers. I fell in love with a rug they have as well as accent pillows I think will match well. We have also decided on the color of the accent chairs and the model of the sofa. My issue : I CANNOT decide on a sofa color!!! Everyone is telling me to do light grey but I am afraid it won't go with the rug I like. I am swayed towards a white sofa (it is more off white, I will post a picture of the swatch bellow) in order to flow with my chairs and everything else. I had spoken to the designer who did our plan and she said I can go with a white sofa no problem. Everyone is saying do light grey. I know I can pick another rug but I am SO In love with the one I have chosen and I think it will make the space... Can anyone advise me on what to do? I do like a light grey sofa but I also really like the colors in the rug...We have to order this week in order to make it in time for Christmas and I am very undecided. You have all been so helpful and if you aren't utterly sick of me, I would appreciate the advice! I’d put the lemon tree or topiary to the right of your range area, just to balance out the tall glass cabinet on the left. I’ve done the same in my own kitchen - put a tallish topiary to the left near the window, to balance out the tall glass cabinet to the far right. Also the wood trim on the bottom of your vent cover is making it feel unbalanced with the black and white drapery. I would put some decorative wrought iron hanging on your range hood cover to give it more presence.

You’ve done a really nice job decorating, but I understand wanting to freshen things up. There are definitely lots of quick, inexpensive updates you could do while deciding on the much more major projects. Changing curtains, rug, etc. I agree with removing all decor over cabinets. If you’d like decor up there, I’d keep it simple and cohesive (I have large baskets over mine). For instance, in this picture, just use the birdcage alone and centered. What I’d do for now is create some mood boards with things you like. I did this quick one, using very casual elements, as an example. Not suggesting these specific items — I don’t know what styles you like or what other rooms nearby look like — just showing a mood board in general. (Excuse the too-large rug, the mock-up site wouldn’t let me go smaller with it.) I did chambray curtain panels, a natural woven shade for over your sink, changing the desk chair pad, adding hardware to the cabinets (I like your cabinets). Again, this is just a very basic example. You may hate these items, that’s fine. The point is for you to create what you like. :) ~~~~~~ If you haven’t already, I’d also do some searches for ‘updating oak kitchen’ and other similar keywords. Tons of ideas come up. Painting cabs, not painting cabs, backsplash changes, etc. Good luck! It’s a great kitchen, I hope you’ll update us with what you decide.
