Aloe Vera - How to divide pups from mother plant?
Comments (33)http://faq.gardenweb.com/discussions/2765911/how-do-i-care-for-my-aloe-vera-plant "Many aloes produce 'pups'. When the pup is fully formed, detach it from the mother plant, let it callus over for a few days in a cool, dry area, and pot it up. If it has roots, pot as you would a regular aloe, allowing for the fact that it is smaller and should be in a suitably sized pot for its size. If it has no roots, let it callus over, place the cut/broken end ON the soil, and support it with top dressing. DO NOT WATER IT-it has no roots, so watering the soil will likely cause rot. Instead, mist it every few days. Roots should start forming within a month. When growth is evident, it can be watered."...See MoreRemoving Pups From Chinese Yellow
Comments (3)I found that in my area during the hot dry spells of summer, M. lasiocarpa gets mites. All this dispite good watering and feeding. They cluster so tightly, removing one at a time is hardly worth the effort. It's overall size is much smaller than Musa basjoo and can't compete with the bold dramatic effect produced by basjoo. A completely different take on the same plant. Mine are out for good....See MoreSucculents & Succulence (aka POPs~Pile O Pups)
Comments (10)Thanks, Colleen! They are cute at every stage! I was given that particular Crassula from a friend. Not sure I have seen it for sale (but wasn't looking, either). I was thinking the same, Jeff...sausages! Or maybe hamburger logs! I have been taking video & even though eyes are still closed, some were using front legs (getting up on) instead of dragging around like seals. I know I can put video on Photobucket (did with 2 sec earthquake shot a while back). Just have to remember how! I like that one of Shadow too! I figured you would like the colorful blanket--tye-dye hippie pups! We swap out every day-but that one is the brightest! Time for me to take 3 dogs on their mornin' walk!...See Moreso what happens if you just keep removing the pups from aloes?
Comments (7)Josh I agree, I have an Aloe Ibitiensis and have been removing offsets from her for a long time, she is rare. She is not growing any taller but still puts out offsets. She is been in the same pot since 1990. I do fertilize her and treat her well. A long story goes with this plant. I think that help keep her alive, she is not drained of energy. I have four healthy babies that I will be removing when I think of it again. Some Aloe continue to grow, other do not get taller and remain on the soil line. It will depend on the species.
