Comments (107)this is a gorgeous kitchen! More on India ink as stain: I've used it on furniture a lot. Be SURE you get permanent India ink. It has some shellac in it to make it more waterproof. It has amazing coverage. I have done an entire armchair frame with only an ounce or two. It's also very messy if you drip it, so wear old clothes and get some disposable latex gloves. It may raise the grain on some woods. Sand the wood smooth before applying it, then do a very light sanding after it's completely dry, if it feels at all rough. Apply a second coat if the sanding removes any of the color. The color is a warm black. It's opaque but the grain of the wood will show through, unlike with paint. It's a pretty unique finish. I have never used Waterlox over my ink finishes, since they were furniture. I think you do need something though--the finish doesn't seem to be super permanent even though the ink is labeled permanent. (That's more for when it's used on paper, not furniture or counters that get a lot of wear and tear.) I used beeswax on the furniture which seemed to seal the ink pretty well. I don't think I would use it on wooden chair seats, though. Too much risk of rubbing off on clothing down the road....See MoreI have a finished white kitchen to share!
Comments (91)As inspiration, the photos in this thread do their job. The photos are highly retouched / photoshopped. In the simplest photo showing the three pendants and the hood, look at the light: that alone will confirm to you it's all artificial, beyond all resemblance to reality. If you divide that photo into a dozen vertical strips, I can comment about the light and shadows in each of these strips. The photo work may have been done by a person who had a few goals to achieve. A goal might be to create envy and become the center of attention. A psychological goal. A goal might be to get paid by one or more sponsors. Perhaps the employer is an agency that was able to get several payments. Every photo shows products. These company's products are mentioned in the thread. Also, questions posted about other items are not answered well. That too is fishy and it constitutes sufficient ground all by itself to make one draw the conclusion that the internet is not always exactly what you might want it to be. Billions of dollars are spent on internet marketing; where does it end up on your computer screen? Welcome to the world of envy management. Buyer beware, things are not always what they appear to be, you get the picture. A few months before this thread started I saw a thread about someone building a new house and claiming to be buying eight slabs of granite for the kitchen. Since a slab is 40 or 50 square feet, it would have meant the kitchen was a very big room. Even billionaires do not have that size of kitchen. Hth...See MoreBefore/After small bathroom reno, suggestions for finishing touches?
Comments (19)Thanks everyone, looks like white towels is the way to go. @mercurygirl - I forgot to put the old blind back up (it's a simple white roller blind), but have been contemplating putting in a new blind instead. A wood blind is a nice idea, thanks @sandi125 yes the before I think is original from the 80s. The kitchen has similar cabinets and will be the next project - but I think I will wait and give myself a bit more time and planning for that one :)...See MorePandemic bathroom reno - picking finishes without seeing
Comments (6)Chispa, no showrooms are open because of COVID. It's interesting to be in this position. I had picked out everything except hardware before the reno started. I looked at hardware once but wanted to go back (and now nothing is open). Would love to support local businesses! The reps are available by email and phone though. I had to cancel my order for California Faucets kitchen faucets (they are shut down), and pick out different faucets (different brand) without seeing them. I could put everything on hold. But already-underway construction can continue, and my guys are begging to work (no more then five working at a time). Crazy times for sure!...See Morecpartist
