New GE Dishwasher Not Drying Dishes
Comments (17)Actually, people did do that, but people will cook food on their engine blocks too. People do all kinds of odd things. I agree about checking the connection to the sink for the smell, unless the smell is just soapy clean locker room smell (which the escaping steam could smell like). The lack of adequate drying in DW's is one of my big bugaboos, but I agree that little pools of water in the concave bottoms of mugs and glasses, and the turned up edges of containers, is normal. I've never had a dishwasher that consistently dried these. I've seen some that have the cups on strong angles, supposedly to drain, but it just makes the racks hard to load, and isn't enough of an angle to really make a difference. Where I start I complain is where great big gobs of water stick all over the dishes. I have the GE Monogram, which probably isn't all that different from the basic GE. In order to get things really dry I have to use Heated Dry/ Added Heat/ Plastics Cycle. Some other combinations are adequate for some uses, but the glasses and plastics only get dry in the plastics cycle. If you have that, give it a try....See MoreDo your dishes come out of the DW totally dry?
Comments (15)OliverTwist, Rinse aid is not a new thing to the automatic dishwashing process. It has been available for 50+ years. It was touted in the past as an optional additive to eliminate water spotting on dishware, but the parameters have changed. As other have advised, rinse aid is required for proper drying results in all dishwashers nowadays. They're engineered with the expectation that the consumer will use rinse aid. You can choose to not use it but the trade-off is much more residual moisture on the items. Many units now do not have heated dry, instead relying on heat retained in the items from the final rinse along with rinse aid to promote evaporation. Units that do have heated dry are running with lower-wattage heating elements, and the heat may cycle on/off during the dry period instead of remaining on continuously as in the past....See MoreDry Away Eco-Friendly Laundry Drying Racks
Comments (11)because, air flow I share this concern. If you have a dryer, why would you pay for something like this unless you are trying to be efficient with the use of utilities? Yes, being Southern, I like to wear blouse-y, lightweight cotton tops, and the dryer is tough on them. They last longer /look good longer if I hang them on hangers to dry. Personally, I'd prefer a plain, open rod above the washer/dryer. Don't skimp on width so things can spread apart -- and a fan somewhere in the room would be a plus but not a necessity. Such a simple rod, having no moving pieces, would last forever. If you're talking about bras and underwear (which I also like to air dry), I'd get one of these things from Amazon and hang it on the same open rack: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R8D1SBW/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07R8D1SBW&pd_rd_w=jJz1K&pf_rd_p=cbc856ed-1371-4f23-b89d-d3fb30edf66d&pd_rd_wg=I3G8a&pf_rd_r=PECT695RHEDG65WJSTX8&pd_rd_r=4176b760-56b6-4af8-a62a-cdad2b5720e6&smid=AH7VHTT9Z3JGK&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExWDJSQ1BRMlowQVZZJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTQ2ODIwVFNHRTBVRkFRQUhGJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTEwMjc1NTIxMjlKSTdLRzcyMllSJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsX3RoZW1hdGljJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==...See MoreMy new Kitchen Aid dishwasher does not completely dry dishes.
Comments (21)@Sonya: "the reason your dishes are wet after a cycle when left in overnight, is that there is condensation build up after the cycle is complete due to the heat of the dishes, and then this condensation settles back onto your dishes. Opening the door after the cycle is complete allows the condensation to escape..." This is not correct. The water on the dishes is in liquid form when the door is closed. When the door is opened, the water changes state -- converts from liquid to gas i.e., evaporates -- because the warm air that surrounds the hot dishes can hold more water vapor than the cold air which enters the dishwasher when the door is opened. It's the same process that occurs when a car defroster clears a cold windshield. "Apparently you can also pop a dish towel into the dishwasher at the end so the condenstation goes there" Not likely....See Morescoutfinch72
