Comments (82)Received my plants and cuttings from Natalie today. The post office made a mess of the box and the heat was a bit unkind to the cuttings. I am hoping water will make them all happy again. In this case, priority mail might have been a better option for the cuttings as it took the silly Post Office a while to get the box to me. Thank you Natalie. I am looking forward to getting these cuttings rooted and in the garden. I must say the box smelled wonderful. My husband remarked about it and his smelling is not the best due to allergies and a couple of nasal surgeries. I had a good time with this swap and will watch for the one you hope to do again in the fall. I have been in contact with Sue and will be getting her box off to her on Saturday. Comments (17)party_music, I found the recipe on line by looking up cornstarch crepes. They have all cornstarch instead of flour but are the same otherwise. I make them in my blender. I always leave the sugar out, I don't use lemon because mother is allergic and only use the vanilla if I'm quite sure they are going to be filled with something sweet. I use skim milk or whole milk or whatever I have on hand. I've even used almond milk and they worked OK, although I wasn't so fond of the flavor (I don't like any of the "fake" milks). I'm betting just water would work since you have fat in the butter and the eggs. Or maybe orange juice and some orange zest, and some of that mascarpone we've been talking about. Hmmm.....I feel experiments coming on! Cornstarch Crepes 3 eggs l cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla, 3 tbls. melted butter 3/4 cup corn starch pinch salt, 1 tbsl. sugar, lemon zest. Add all ingredients to blender and blend well. I use about 1/3 cup per crepe but if you are more dexterous than I am you can make them thinner. About 45 seconds per side and they are done. These seem to be less fragile than when made with wheat flour and everyone loves them just as well! Annie...See MoreMain meal today
Comments (35)Well I was craving something hot & kind of gooey; had intended to have pea soup but just made Mac &Cheese with some of my tiny cherry tomatoes, spinach, baby kale & spring mix, and a sprinkle of bacon bits. I confess I used a box mix (really no faster than getting the cheese out of the freezer) ; I didn't add any of the butter it calls for though, instead I use fat free sour cream, a Tbs. of parmesan, enough water to make a smooth sauce after the powder is in, and a few grinds of black pepper....See MoreWhat’s for Dinner #408 Late Fall 2023
Comments (97)No interesting cooking for people over here, but I’ve been cooking tasty food for dogs :-) We’re in Berkeley taking care of our friends’ very elderly and reportedly on his last legs little dog. I am, of course, determined that he will not expire on my watch, and when he eats enthusiastically I feel better. So, what to feed him? The base is a tasty homemade chicken stock, made from a roasted chicken, carrots, celery, onion - just like you’d make a chicken stock for yourself. We cook a batch of rice with that stock. Other chicken is browned then simmered, and minced up. His kibble is soaked in more stock. Then some more cooked chicken and carrots get pureed with stock into a sort of gravy-paste. Rice, kibble, and gravy are mixed, then briefly warmed in the microwave. Finally, crisp bacon is crumbled on top. I am pleased to say that Elderly Dog positively gobbles his food, cleaning his bowl reliably enough that I can give him his pills crushed in the food. I’d happily eat it myself, actually, except that there’s no salt or spice. Well, I don’t really like kibble. All the fixings are in stored in Tupperware so feeding doesn’t take long....See More- 10 years ago
