The water in a milk jug routine just doesn't work. The water is unable to store enough heat to release anything back into the greenhouse...in fact, they themselves will just freeze if the temps go below freezing for long. I have a 50gallon plastic black barrel of water in my greenhouse (for a water source, not a heat source) and it does absolutely nothing in terms of heating the greenhouse. If I don't keep a heater on, it just freezes solid. So, you would be just as well off to leave out the milk jugs and use the space for more plants. How large is this "greenhouse"? Is it one of those small wire shelf units with a plastic cover on it? You might consider just using a small "milk house" electric heater. You can find timers or better yet, a thermostat device to plug it into. Or...lay your flats of seedlings or plants on top of heat mats. These just heat the plants from the bottom to 10-15* above whatever the ambient temperature is. But might be just enough in your zone. If your greenhouse is larger, you could create a mini greenhouse zone inside of it with some shelving and plastic and just heat that space. Be prepared to throw a quilt over the unit at night, to help hold in the heat. The Goodwill is a good source for cheap quilts just for this purpose. These are all solutions I've used at various times over the years. Good luck!

Makes sense I would lean towards a country french door, the house is in Louisana on 12 acres of land over looking 200 yr live oaks. This is why I said that the decorating or style part is something you want to think about now because as you can see it affects many of the building choices, from doors to hardware to lighting fixtures etc. But it's also important to take into account the house's location/setting, as well as the design of the house itself. What do the elevations of your house look like? One can, of course, plop a "modern farmhouse" decorating style into a Creole cottage or an American four square or a brick colonial, but the result is more effective when the interior and exterior work together harmoniously. The alternative to this is, as echoed in the Maria Killam article, to keep the bones of the house timeless and classic, and then decorate around that in whatever style one currently favors.

I might remove the shutters, and then paint all the trim a nice crisp black. I’m also a fan of bright doors (currently have persimmon orange; last house was a Moroccan blue). If you could paint the trim to match your siding it would look great, but I think you can work with what you have. A lot of houses in my neighborhood are updating with cedar cladding. I wonder if something like that would look cool on your portico pillars?

Go to your local lumberyard and ask. Here in the southeast everyone sources their interior doors from Tucker. Their slab doors are available in multiple wood types.
