gardenatlanta, I have these three: Enchantress (or Enchanter) Blooms: small, magenta; they seemed to ball a lot the first year Foliage: exceptionally well foliated - very bushy, typical tea leaves but on the small side, very pretty Thorns: haven't noticed, can't see the canes for the leaves Bloom frequency: last summer (it's first) it seemed almost constantly in bloom Fragrance: don't know, too low to the ground Disease resistance: excellent SIZE: rather small - one year old and about 2' tall and 3-1/2' wide but very healthy General Schablikine Almost a year in the ground here Blooms: kind of irregularly shaped, kind of untypical but I like them, shades of brick red & pink Foliage: well foliated, fairly tall but twiggy not vase-shaped but mine's a year & a half old so has some maturing to do, leaves can get this alligator rippled pattern in them, not on all leaves Thorns: typical for a tea, not huge, not a lot Bloom frequency: blooms in cycles probably 6 weeks apart approximately Fragrance: probably light tea Disease resistance: excellent, old leaves get a few spots and some yellow and drop off SIZE: probably medium - about 4-1/2' tall and 4-1/2' wide now but not yet filled out in all directions La Sylphide Blooms: pink with a sheerness to them; in heat they lighten to pale pink; nodding; very delicate and feminine in character Foliage: normal Thorns: typical Bloom frequency: not sure, not a heavy bloomer in its first year Fragrance: don't know Disease resistance: very good SIZE: on the small side - about 3' tall and 3' wide at 1-1/2 yrs old Sherry

Jaqueline, here is some local information: there are more than a dozen Pernetiana rose cultivars that thrive in the S.F.Bay area, -at Morcam Parks old rose garden (corner of olive and Oakland ave. If you stand at the NOrth side of the Victorian rose circle bed, (in the center of the Old Rose Garden, where Mme. Ernst Calvat is planted on 6' tall poles, the main Pernetiana bed will be in the N.E. corner bed, and Talisman on the N.W. bed to the left. -Morcam is a no-spray garden by official vote. These are thriving there, and blooming normally, with little blackspot. These do get P.M. but not enough to defoliate or reduce blooming. 'Talisman' 'President Herbert Hoover' my favorite climbing Pernetiana for its delicious fragrance, which I've grown in Emeryville, in my organic rose garden. 'Gruss an Coberg' very floriferous and fastest re-bloom of this group. 'Mari Dot' There are c. a dozen other Pernetiana roses planted there. I would reccomend most Pernetiana roses within a small microclimate in the Bay area, where temperatures are rarely high enough for blackspot to spread. This includes all the areas within 3 miles of the s.f. Bay. From Hayward to San Jose, blackspot might be more of a problem, but not for you. The only Pernetiana I would not reccomend for you, is 'Lundys Lane' which defoliated c. 20% of its leaves, from blackspot despite being sprayed with Cornell in Emeryville, where I live. Good luck, I love the Pernetiana group best among all the other H.T.s, along with the few Tea Hybrids. Lux.

I so agree. I wish nurseries would get the names right. A friend and I were sent what were supposed to be 2 La Vesuves from a reputable nursery. They turned out to be G Nabonnand. The nursery sells G Nabonnand, and even sent them both in my order! I told them about it, but never heard back. The nursery that has Mme de Tartas lists it as 3.5' by 3.5', which usually translates here as 6' by 6'. I want it to sprawl over the wall, ie downwards. The bed is semi-circular, with a 5' wall at the back, and a 5' drop off the front.
