Reframing an old recessed medicine cabinet
Comments (4)A framing shop knows how to do one thing. Frame art. They do not genrelaly know anything about building cabinets. Picture frames do not involve a lot of hinges....See MoreRecessed Medicine Cabinet - framed or frameless
Comments (5)We have three frameless, recessed Robern med cabs, and are very happy with all three. We have 3 1/2-4" deep models in the guest bathroom and hall bathroom, and a 6" deep model in the MB. Our bathrooms are small as well (MB is the smallest, go figure!), so storage space was a concern for us as well. I love my 6" med cab--can fit a lot in there! Ours all have flat mirrors, because that was our preference. I think you would be fine with whichever one you choose--I don't think there is a hard and fast rule which type of mirror you can use with a traditional or contemporary or ultra modern bathroom. I've seen bathrooms of all types using a wide range of med cab styles and none ever looked out-of-place to me....See MoreRecessed medicine cabinet on outside wall - cold?
Comments (2)I have thin insulation between the medicine cabinet and the outside wall and have trim around the cabinet to make up the reduction in depth. It actually looks better than a completely recessed cabinet. The trim is painted the same color as the wall, but in another bathroom, I have trim that matches the vanity. That looks good, too....See MoreOak frame medicine cabinet, plain
Comments (2)The wall behind the sink already has a big wide mirror on it that we're keeping. I think it's likely the vent is there: I remember piping (PVC, I think) running up that wall from when the house was built ~20 years ago. I was concerned about the conduit coming from the box because I don't know if it is likely that it is going straight up (in which case I will be fine, as I have room to move it a couple of inches sideways), or at an angle, heading for the light over the big mirror on the adjacent wall. The wall switches control this light as well as a ceiling fan. The medicine cabinet is on a side wall right next to the door, which is why its sticking out is awkward. I'd like it to fit between the studs: I don't want to have to reframe anything. If it gets too complicated looking I will have to give it up, as the "add-ons" to this reno are getting ridiculous! I was in HD yesterday and didn't see any recessed ones: but admittedly was rushing through....See Morebagofchips
