My 30 inch base cabinet has 28.5 inches inside. My LG cook top requires more than that. My base cabinet for my LG wall oven is 1/4 inch too short in height. All my appliances are going back to the store. Too bad because I liked the LG appliances. I am having a hard time finding a cooktop to fit 28.5 inches. Only one is the GE.

I purchased a Miele dishwasher about 5 months ago and am very pleased with it. I considered the Miele washer and dryer but wanted a larger capacity. I found a brand new Miele cooktop on Craigslist last night. It seems it was purchased for a remodel that either didn't happen or they changed their mind. I've already contacted the seller and will be meeting him today. My only hesitation is the existing cutout dimensions in my granite countertop. According to the installation instructions for my existing cooktop and Miele's cooktop, the width is 1/2" (35" vs 35 1/2") narrower for the Miele. I can't get to the actual cutout to measure without removing the existing cooktop. I'm not sure how wide the lip is on the Miele to know whether this is a problem or not. My husband can modify the base cabinet to ensure adequate support but I want to make sure the lip covers the entire cutout. Here is a link that might be useful: Miele 36

This one caught me by suprise as well. For a cabinet over a 36" fridge, you get a 36" wide cabinet. For a cabinet to house a 30" wall oven, you get a 30" wide cabinet. But for a 36" wide induction cooktop, you need a wider-than-36-inches cabinet. Of course I only discovered this after the cabinets had arrived, and assembled, and the cooktop cabinet was installed. Since getting a larger cabinet for that space would have totally screwed up my plan, I modified the cabinet so that the cooktop would fit. I uninstalled it and cut a notch out of the cabinet sides so that it would fit, and re-installed the cabinet. By the way it would easily fit without any modifications in a 38" wide cabinet, but of course that isn't one of the standard offered sizes in the Kraft Maid line, and the next larger size must be the 42 incher the cab guy is pushing you toward. Once I realized the modification was necessary, it only took about 5 minutes to do. -Bob
