Oil rubbed bronze hardware on dark wood cabinets -- pics & opinions?
In my previous build I chose white trim, doors, and cabinets w/ satin nickel hardware.
In my current build I'm choosing wood stained everything. By default I was looking at satin nickel, but I'm wondering if I might like the subtle look of dark hardware on dark cabinets. I'm having trouble finding pictures or opinions though -- so....help? :)
Here's the current photoshopped doodle for my kitchen. The AW granite/backsplash is the star of the show, and there will be dishes/mugs in the open shelves. Appliances are slate, faucet is satin nickel. I'll choose understated stools.

Comments (14)I, too, am having this problem. Our cabinets are on order, yeah, antique white with a glaze and medium color hickory cabinets on the island. Have looked at granite and are set on a cream/brown wavy one(can't think of the name). Plan on using cup pulls and knobs with a small detail around the edge. We are having quite a few drawers so lots of pulls. Our appliances are SS have a white not brite white farm house sink and a stainless faucet. I do agree that ORB would look great on the white cabinets. How about the hickory cabinets? What about light fixtures? Plan on having pendants over the island. Our dining room is connected. Tearing down the wall that seperates the 2 rooms-making the kitchen larger. I mention this because should the light fixture match the kitchens light fixtures, in style and in metal finish? In your 1st photo,(upclose) the hardware looks totally pewter or matt silver though not ORB...Can you explain...As I need rich very dark (but not black)ORB matte real iron/metal. I initially though matte black to go with our handmade black custom potrack, wroight iron stair wells etc..and not be matchy matchy with hardware but the black didn't look good with my sample wood and so I'll have no contrast but go with dark ORB. LOVE the look. Comments (5)Only do that if you don't want to pick something special as your hardware. Use plain knobs and pulls. Using dark against dark makes everything blend in and you do not notice the details so there is no point in spending a lot of money on hardware that won't get noticed. If you want to keep the same color tones as an ORB faucet, then pick brass (yes, it's BACK!) knobs and pulls. It will be a bit brighter and still have the right undertones to use with ORB. Maybe a brass light fixture too? Comments (4)Yes, no one can look at both and take the time to be picky about it lol. You will be the ones who notice things more than anyone. And after the dust settles most of the time you wont even think about it anymore. Side note I dont think you need contrast on your cabinet pulls, a brushed brass would be really pretty with bronze..just a thought....See More

8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoI have dark reddish stain on my quarter sawn oak cabinets with ORB knobs and pulls. I like the look of the dark knobs. IMO the nickel stands out too much where the ORB blends in with the wood.

8 years agoHere is mine. Sorry no granite yet, but it is a sienna Bordeaux which is grey based with red and black running through it. My dilemma now is a SS or orb faucet. Bought both and will decide at the last minute. My door style is very similar to yours. It is a chocolate stained cherry. Good luck!
