KINDLE QUESTION

I got a kindle paper white several months ago. I love using it but due to my cheapness and the fact that quite a few books I wanted to read were available way sooner in book form than in e form from the library, I haven't used the kindle as much. So, I know there was recently some update done.

I just started a new book on it, and it opened on page 1 saying 4 hours and 50 minutes to completion. I just read for a quick 10 minutes or so, and it did progress to 5% completed, but now shows 5 hours and 10 minutes remaining.

I am so puzzled- am I THAT slow a reader? Has anyone else found this? So curious.:)

I have a Kindle and also use the Kindle App on my iPad and I seldom look at the time remaining. But I wonder if it recalculates the time every time you turn it off and then back on again . The navigation on my car estimates the time remaining to my destination - but it changes depending on the speed of my car. Is it possible that you were reading a little slower the second time or stopped to answer the phone or something?

I'll have to look my mine the next time. And to be really scientific I could open both my Kindle and iPad and check the time on both of them......lol

The Kindle estimates your reading time based on how you turn pages. Honestly, I don't pay any attention to that thing. :)

you get your books directly to the kindle from the kindle store. Are you trying to move something from your kindle archive on your kindle for pc to your kindle device? if so you can do that with out using any cords you simply need to sync the devices and it will all have the same content. All of the kindle devices MUST have the same user name and account with amazon to share or sync however. Once you have the kindle device on just choose to sync with others in your account and it will move all of your books from your kindle on pc to the kindle device and vice versa. with the kindle for pc up in the top right corner click up there and choose sync to sync it from there. In earlier models you could use a memory card in the kindle but the newer ones do not have the memory card. the whisper sync function is totally wireless and very easy to use. You can also go to your personal library page on your account at amazon kindle and find all of your books listed there from there you can choose any of them to have synced to your devices. You do not want to do it the email way because you will be charged a fee for that

Just an add on, you should be doing the same thing with any USB thumbdrives or any usb media storage...there should also be a little icon (has some green on it) down by the clock when you have a usb item plugged in. you can click on it and disable the usb unit plugged in...it should then tell you it is safe to remove

It took me awhile but I put mine in collections....a few at a time because I couldn't tell from the titles into what category I wanted them in and had to look them up. I did some in collections according to the author and then also did collections like cook books, medical, medical mysteries, mysteries and thrillers, fiction, non-fiction, animal, short story etc. Now that I have this done, when I download a book, I put it right in a collection. My sister is doing it differently. Once she reads the book, she puts it in the collection.

you do know that any books etc she had that were under his account will no longer be available to her any longer once she is off his account. I would at least download them to the kindle it self because the archives are on amazon servers possibly the ones saved to the device might stay. You might want to contact amazon and explain the situation they might be able to save her books to the new account,doubtful but worth a try.

Yes, Kindle just estimates based on your reading speed. You can actually turn that off. I keep mine on but pretty much ignore it.

That update thing with wordwise is a pain. I had to turn it off because it was set at the highest mark and every darn sentence had hints. I'm not even sure what the hints were I just turned it off.

I much prefer iBooks where it tells you how many pages are left in the chapter (based on font size, etc.). The only time I use the Kindle app is for library books.

Thanks all- I wasn't overly concerned but it was just so puzzling , I could see the time remaining kind of staying stagnant but to increase was just too bizarre. No worries. I really do find it much easier to read on the kindle than a printed page. I particularly like the lighting.
