That looks like a Colocasia (having an extremely bad hair day). Definitely not an Alocasia. If they get damage to the tuber you'll get a lot of pup development, sort of a survival response. Although they don't like to dry out, wet AND cold will damage them. They naturally grow in swamps/very wet areas in the tropics. They can take a lot of sun if there's plenty of water. But fertiliser requirements aren't high, they prefer a very organic soil. So some sun, some light fertilising, plenty of water and warmth. The 'mother' tuber has probably rotted out but that shouldn't affect the pups as long as they get the right conditions. If you're increasing their sun exposure, do it gradually.

I've tried several tactics to overwinter 'Black Magics' this winter. So far I haven't lost one yet. Just a few months to go! 1) Some I potted up and kept in basement under lights. Temp about 70 degrees. Lights on for about 14 hours. They only keep about one or two leaves at a time. And those droop when they need water. So I water when dry. They are prone to spider mites at this temperature. 2) Potted and kept in my cool garage. These look about the same as the ones in the basement. I water when dry. I can let these go a bit dryer due to cooler temps. Temps run from minimum of 45 up to maybe 60 during warm spells. (I have heater in there to keep above freezing). 3) Water-bucket method. In Fall dig plants, hose off ALL the dirt, trim some roots, dead leaves, and leave one only or two leaves. Place plants in buckets of water maybe 3-4 inches deep. Occasionally dump water, trim off dead tissue and refill. My two buckets of Black Magics seem to be doing fine this way too. These I keep in my cool garage. The cooler temps keeps the water from turning stagnant. This method does require some maintenance of dead tissue removal and water replacement, otherwise water will stagnate, but I don't think it's any more work than worrying about keeping pots watered. I'll probably have to pot these up next month. So.... take your pick. I believe Black Magics are worth wintering over. They're my favorite.

I love your Thai Giant. I used milorganite on my plumeria and brugs the last few years and they did really amazing. This last year I didn't use it. I can really see the difference with last few years they got monsterous and bloomed nonstop. This year they are not blooming near as much. I got a few seedpods on my Mojito this year. I don't know what they are crossed with or if it pollinated itself. One other colocasia you might like is Maui Magic. It has a purplish black shiny leaf and is very vigorous. Xanthosoma atrovirens (mickey mouse taro) the varigated form, is really pretty. I also like alocasia 'Stingray' that looks like little stingrays. I found them very tender (we got down to 17 last year) so protect them well.

Found this on web: In the winter, Alocasias and Colocasias should be dug right after the first light frost. After cleaning off the bulbs with water, I allow them to dry. The Missouri Botanical Garden recommends packing the bulbs in peat moss or wood shavings. They should be stored at temperatures between 40-50 degrees F. for the winter. I have Amorphophallus konjac (number of corms now) that I usually just leave in pot without watering for the winter. They start growing 'whenever they decide' - just found one started sprouting recently. It is also in the basement, same temps I mentioned above (perhaps 'too warm' to overwinter?) and kept without lights. I didn't water it since it came inside, sometimes in early october. I was thinking of doing similar with alocasia & colocasia. Rina
