Rooting "Mini Monstera" What should I do now?

Hi hi everyone I'm a super plant noob and need some help! So about a month ago I bought two cuttings of a plant called "mini monstera" on ebay. Ive always loved the look of monstera but I don't have room for a plant like that haha. So when I ran into this plant it was perfect! I googled it and it has a bunch of names like Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, Philodendron Ginny, ect. So I don't know what the actual name is. Anyways, with my moms advice I just stuck the two cuttings in water and let it be. (That's her solution for all plants, just put it in water and see if it grows roots! Lol.) After about a month of nothing happening one of the cuttings aerial roots grew some fleshy looking white roots! The other cutting didn't make it, all his leaves turned brown and fell off. :(

I'm so happy! But, I don't know what to do now. Should I pot him or let the roots grow a little more? One of them is about and 1 1/2 inch long the other about 1 inch. One of his leaves is starting to brown on the tip. I really don't want to loose him because I literally can't find this plant anywhere online anymore!

The "Mini Monster" (or Monstera) is Rhaphidophora tetrasperma. It's neither a Monstera nor a Philodendron. But often you'll see them in nurseries just labelled "Philodendron species". For me they grow faster than Monstera deliciosa but are a far more slender plant. So you'll need something for it to grow up. Some people grow them in a hanging pot and when the vines get a bit too long they just loop them back up over the pot. I don't root them in water, only in moist soil. If one of the leaves is starting to brown on the tip then I'd remove it from the water and pot it up.

I am doing same with all my Fig trees. But I have one rule which never allow roots to grow through the container bottom. I block all these holes and drill holes on the side of the container. You was lucky your tree still young and you was able to pull it from the ground. When the tree gets old and established it is impossible to move it with its roots sticking from the drainage holes. I use the shovel and cut the roots from the side holes easily and move the pots. One of my trees is over 6 feet tall and still I can move it easy. Easy is not that easy but I can do it.

Put a little soil over it. Leave it until it is VERY well rooted. Then you can cut it from mama and plant it! GGG

Thanks, I will keep it in the turface until I see more root growth. At this time though it is only a twig, there are no leaves yet. they all fell off when I put the cutting in the turface. I also keep it in a large plastic container with the lid closed. Makes it kinda like a little green house. I open it up every day or so for some fresh air. when I removed the cutting and saw the new roots I also saw some white growth, im guessing mold? I wiped this off and put it back into the turface and it seems to be fine.I think I may have forgot to let it breath once or twice and it got too moist! Thank you again for the great advice. I am hoping now that the roots are forming the roots will grow faster.

Thanks Dave, would believe that the 2nd planter is already planted as deeply as possible? Ray - we have some alumafoil that will go on the planters tomorrow. I think we can arrange some temporary shade as well. If these plants were established before this hot weather, would they still be in such distress? Would it hurt anything to pour ice cubes on the mulch? Or directly on the plastic cover underneath the mulch? The goal would be to lower the soil temp. As for fertilizer, the first box has the two plants in the middle, and the fertilizer strip around the edge. The 2nd (healthy) planter has the fertilizer strip right down the middle (left to right) with the plants set in the back third of the box. When I started my own tomatoes, I always grew very strong roots - and still planted them deep. I knew this was overkill for spring planting, but if I ever start them for summer planting, I think I'll do this again!
