Surprise!
Comments (6)isnt it fun! I found some eggs and hid them beneath a conch shell. The grandson would be here any minute and I wanted him to find them. We played in the garden and he lifted the conch and squealed. Carefully he picked up the tiny egg and began to talk to it.He carried it around the yard while he walked and all of a sudden he shrieked. The baby popped out! What??? I grabbed his tiny had and sure enough their was the baby! perfect timingfor him to see this miracle! Maybe the warmth of his hand or maybe he just willed it out! Here he is in a jar on my couch next to his deflated egg. We later placed him back outside to find his family. I hope grandmas house is the funnest!...See MoreIdentify this Snake
Comments (1)These unfortunate little snakes are Rough Earth Snakes(Virginia striatula), and are indeed harmless as you've already guessed. I'm not sure, though, why you'd wonder if they'd be something to "worry" about, if you knew they were harmless already. All snakes are beneficial to us to at least some degree, even the venomous species, as they, too, eat rodent pests. There are no snakes which are a real threat to agricultural or other human endeavors native to the US, as in none that eat our crops or plants or livestock, aside from the occasional chicken egg devoured by a Rat Snake. These little snakes feed primarily on earthworms and slugs, and in eating the latter, do gardeners a big favor!...See MoreUnknown snake in South America
Comments (4)Tough to tell exactly what it is without a closer photo, but it isn't a venomous species. It is a juvenile of one of the "racer-like" snakes. If I would have to guess, it is a juvenile of one of the following genera: Chironius - "Sipos" Dendrophidion - "Forest Racers" Drymoluber - "Woodlands Racer" Mastigodryas - "Tropical Racers" All of those genera are harmless and I strongly suspect it is one of the species in those genera. It is not one of the Colombian coralsnakes nor is it any species of viper....See MoreSmall Snake
Comments (0)In 1968, I was in Basic at Ft Campbell. During that time some captured two small snakes, a t different times. They put them in a butt can. that was a large coffee can painted red ,from a piece of rebar, if memory serves outside the barracks. The first snake was dark with some patterns but not much more thickness than a horse hair. They said it was a horsehair snake. I've seen horsehair snakes, or worms, in the woods in water on leaves etc. This wasn't one. It had a mouth and tongue and was definately a snake. The second one was most memorable. It was patterned all over but had two long yellow white stripes along the sides of the top of the snake. In between it had elongated diamonds the same color. The shape of its head was wider than the body and it had black eyes, as I recall. It was quite long and coiled around the inside of the can in some water. It flicked its tongue out quite a bit. It was not as thick as a pencil lead in diameter. It was a brown glossy bronze color with a discerable but I caan';t remember, pattern other than the stripes and diamonds To this day I have not seen a photo or description, of the snake on the net or anywhere. Has anyone seen anything like this?...See Moregreenerontheotherside_8a
