Jade plant has white spots on leaves
Comments (15)Jades do not actually perform better when 'under-potted'. The reason this is so often parroted is that an under-potted plant uses the moisture in the soil much faster than an over-potted plant. It is much more accurate to simply say Jades prefer a very fast soil than to suggest they grow better under root-bound conditions. We may sometimes use the stress of a plant being root-bound to bend the plant to our will (to induce blooms or reproduction ...), but that is no signal it is of actual benefit to the plant. Growth is measured in the increase of biomass and a root-bound plant will produce new mass in reduced proportion to the degree of how root-bound it is. The combination of large containers and very fast soils is the best way to maximize growth. Al...See MoreDried up, crispy leaves & white spots on leaves
Comments (5)The first plant looks like it has a watering problem. Either it got too dry while you were gone and the edges of the leaves were damaged, or it is getting overwatered and the roots are rotting. I see you have it on an automatic system. Did you ever find it badly wilted? If so, this is when the damage occurred and new growth should be normal. If not, then try taking it out of the pot and look at the roots. Healthy roots should be white and firm (older roots can become woody and darker, but should still be firm). There should be some new growth. Rotting roots will be mushy and discolored with little new growth. If they are rotting, take it off of the automatic system and hand water only when the soil gets dry....See MoreWhite Spots on Leaves
Comments (4)Ok , thanks for that info. I t makes a big difference. My first question would be about planting zucchini this early. Even in your location it seems awfully early for heat loving summer crops that can't tolerate to the many variables of early spring weather. That plus the wind factor and the possibility of incomplete hardening would indicate it is all environmental damage, damage from exposure. If that is the case and the plant survives and adjusts then the new growth should be fine but some plant protection may be required to insure its survival. The leaf edge burning/blackening I see is often a result from a spray of some kind or from excess nitrogen. I don't know what pikes potting soil is or its contents so can't address any nutrient problems it may have. Dave...See MoreWhite spots on leaves!
Comments (4)Hey Dee, google "Brand X Foliage Cleaner" (sorry I can't link it, I'm on a work computer). It's an amazing, non-toxic foliage cleaner that gets rid of most hard water spots, while also making the leaves "slippery" enough that mealy bugs and scale cannot adhere to the plant. I literally can't say enough good stuff about the product and use it on all my (non-fuzzy) plants....See Morehabjolokia z 6b/7
