My two tone kitchen reveal sans backsplash
Comments (28)I haven't been here in a while, I have missed seeing and hearing about all the new kitchens! I thought I would post an update, now that we have lived with our kitchen for over a year. I really love my two tone cabinets, the cherry base cabinets are warm and inviting and the mushroom wall cabinets keep the kitchen from being too dark. After all the angst of the decision, I am so glad I went with the solid wall of cabinets. And I am still in awe of my granite, do not for one single second regret the money spent on it! We ended up doing a stacked beige subway tile for the backsplash, with a herringbone pattern behind the range and I am very happy with my choice. As for appliances, I still love my microwave drawer, I use it every day and the only complaint I have is that the panel doesn't light up well. And I absolutely adore my fridge, love it so much we got the same one for my son! The produce drawer is still my favorite feature, and the ice maker my least favorite. We have never run out of ice, but we are a small family and when we have company, we always use bagged ice. But I can see this being an issue for a larger family without a second fridge with ice maker. I am very happy with my Bosch dishwasher, it does a great job and I've never had the goop issue some were having when I bought mine. The big miss in my kitchen is the range, I should have gone with induction. And I really dislike the surface of my range, it is a pain to keep clean, I miss the ease of my Thermador cooktop. And if I had it to do over again, I would have done drawers in the two base cabinets that don't have them. I still cannot believe how much more organized my kitchen is because of the drawer bases! I had a hard time wrapping my brain around how they would function for me, but after living with my kitchen for a year, I would do an all drawer kitchen in a heartbeat. Overall, I am so grateful to have a kitchen that is both functional and beautiful, and I so appreciate all the advice and encouragement I got from this forum!...See MoreAs good as it gets for now-Finished kitchen minus backsplash
Comments (47)senator13; I loved your kitchen all of it. I have been looking for several years for a way to install an apron front sink in my existing laminate countertops. I'm not talking about the Ikea Djomso sink. I've been looking at the Kohler Dickinson. And I was so excited when I came across yours. How did you ensure that the the laminate edges that butt up against the sink are waterproof? Please share any secrets/tricks that made it possible. Also how is it after this amount of time? I have an extremely busy kitchen in a family of 8. Thank you so much, I look forward to hearing from you....See MoreBacksplash? No backsplash? What kind of backsplash?
Comments (25)didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )...See MoreI'm having a love affair
Comments (11)Not only did you post them, I remember looking at them. They are fantastic! You were lucky to find Carrara that is very white. In my area, all of the Carrara is mostly gray. It also no longer a more budget friendly stone as it has become very popular. And not just in homes, but it is popping up in restaurants, coffee shops, candy stores, ice cream places, barber shops. Everywhere I go, I see marble and I feel it is my right to touch it every time. I'm waiting now for my 1 PM appt with the fabricator to install a slab of Danby Marble in my kitchen. I am sure I will be feeling the same as you this evening. It is amazing to me how emotional I have become over marble. It will probably make me sound crazy to reveal this but I actually had a series of 4 bad dreams about the marble install last night. In the first, the piece was cut too small. In the second, the fabricator showed up with some kind of laminate (looked like the counters my parents had in the bathrooms growing up) and tried to convince me to take it instead of the marble. In the third, the piece was broken. In the fourth, they cut the layout differently than I selected but ruined the part that I wanted to use....See MoreRelated Professionals
