Tint or no tint on a window for sun glare

Have a window above the TV that will be replaced with a Low E 366 glass. We thought about also adding a bronze tint to it (manufacturer tint). Oddly by doing that the SHG goes up a little bit. Is it overkill to do this? Would we see a glare in our eyes with Low E 366 or would the tint be beneficial? Thanks.

If you are worried about the glare, go with the Tint. A small offset in SGHC is minimal when it comes to a baseline SHGC of 366 glass.

+1 to WoW's advice.

You might also ask your dealer about the possibility of using LoE³-340 coating. It's a relatively new coating that's basically a darker-tinted version of 366.

Thanks for the quick reponses... although I am disappointed to hear that tinting will not help for nighttime privacy. VHehn- did you install the tint material yourself? I love our view so would not be happy if it were blurred! UGH!-- Anyone else have experience (pos or neg) or alternative suggestions?

My husband and I are very much "do-it-yourselfers" but when we had our 4 large floor to ceiling windows and sliding door tinted we elected to have a pro do them. In order to get a smooth finish, that lined up correctly with the glass without bubbles or wrinkles it was worth having someone install the film. I think it cost around 300$ (maybe less) for someone to install it. We used a three M product, and it has cut down the heat into the room considerably. We used a medium tint and yes the room became somewhat less bright but not at all dark. It has been a year and our eyes have adjusted to it and we think it was to blindingly bright before the window tinting. I would imagine the tinting will last a good long time unless my cat severely scratches it (in fact, the film was placed and integrated on the window so well that I can not see an area that I could even begin to remove it off the window).

Compare the VT ratings on the two glass pack options and that will tell you which unit provides more natural light. In this case the SunCoat Max (Low-e 366) will give you more light as compared to triple pane. It will not be as thermally efficient but if light is your concern, the SunCoat Max option is the better of the two. Triple glazed does mean triple pane.

I paid about $1100 to do (as I recall) about 9 windows, so your quote seems high. I obsessed over which tint to use--I didn't want to block the light! In the end, I went with the one the sales guy said is what almost everyone chooses, and blocks 97% of the UV rays (or close to that). He was absolutely right, I don't even notice that it's there. And now I want it on ALL the windows in our house. Then, you can assess whether you need a motor or whether you just want to take those blinds down. We have high windows (now with film on them) and I don't notice any glare or have any need or want to put anything else on those windows. It's fine.
