How do you clean your coffee maker?
Comments (4)I do vinegar. I've owned many coffeemakers and always use the same method. Fill it at least halfway with vinegar and then run it. Whole kitchen stinks. Then I just keep running full pots of water through it until I can stick my nose into the water reservoir and not smell vinegar, however many rinsings that it takes. Might take two. Might take five or six. Wiping interior of the top cover with paper towels to get the vinegar condensation in between rinsings. I also remove whatever parts that hold the coffee filter, etc that can be removed and use a sponge 'scrubber' to make sure all of the residue is gone out of the 'grooves'. I do not find that merely washing parts in the dishwasher sufficient to get rid of that greasy residue. Works for me....See MoreHow do you make your coffee?
Comments (91)"If something tastes better, that assumes that the 'better' is objective" My comments were directed to things others said, not to a straw man. There's nothing to fall for. Did I say tastes better? If I did, I left out "to me and others who care about flavor". I think it's you and others advancing a straw man argument. Let's take it in steps. For taste, I'd say things like more or less rich, more or less full bodied or deeper, more or less nuanced, more coffee flavor, more or less acidic, more sharp or more mellow, etc. Funny enough, many of the same words people use to describe wine without fruit elements. These are objective among people who like or want to pay attention. Better? That's subjective, that's about preferences. You like mild, I may like a sharper flavor. Or I like a milder flavor, and you don't care. Etc. Music is the same in a lot of ways. There are people who listen superficially and don't pay attention to or care about nuances in performance, arrangements, etc., There are those who listen more deeply. Classical music fans might have 5 copies of their favorite piece, each performed by a different orchestra with a different conductor. Someone else would say - they all sound the same. Is one person right and the other wrong? They are insofar as the objective assessment is concerned because they're not the same, they are each different. But as between the people, which is preferred has to do with taste and personal preference, and to many it may not matter at all. You won't find percolated Maxwell House coffee in a coffee store. There's a reason why. If you want to think it's because coffee snobs wouldn't drink it because it's not special, then go right ahead....See MoreHow do you all style a dining room table that is NOT in use
Comments (17)I have different looks for different seasons. This summer it was dolphin candle holders and a basket with glass floats in it. Fall I have some candle holders with a fall theme--greenery, pinecones, acorns, etc. and winter is red cardinals and I have a couple of other vases with seasonal flowers. I also always have a fruit bowl. My kitchen is small so that's where I keep my fruit--apples, bananas, pears, oranges, an occasional avocado, etc. I have a cornucopia for Thanksgiving but the vegetables are fake. It's fun though. I have a big china cabinet with closed cupboards on the bottom, that's where I store the stuff off-season....See MoreHow do you make your coffee or tea, if you drink them at all?
Comments (29)Seems like everybody has their own personal style when it comes to coffee and tea - and lots of other stuff too. I was just thinking that social scientists might have some pretty good material in these types of threads😃 I do not care for burnt coffee, a.k.a. dark roast. I buy organic Honduran medium roast whole beans from Aldi, store them in a glass jar in my freezer and grind enough for a small pot - 2 large cups - every morning, using an old Melitta single cup cone to make pour through and I keep it hot in a Pyrex carafe on a little warming plate. I put a splash of heavy cream in the cup before adding the hot coffee. When I'm out of cream, I use half & half. I cannot have caffeine after noon or I won't sleep that night, so coffee for me is a morning thing only. My grinder is an electric one by Braun, and I wipe it out every day with a soapy sponge, and also wash the cone and carafe every day. I haven't had a coffee machine in over 30 years. There's no room for one in my tiny kitchen anyway. I like various types of tea and have both bags of green tea and loose black tea. My preference in tea is for flavored ones like jasmine, Earl Grey, and some of the citrus/fruity green teas too. Not that crazy about plain green tea. I also have a seasonal decaf green tea from Trader Joe's (Candy Cane) for drinking in the afternoons - usually cold, and I also have a cup of Sleepytime Extra every night before bed. I learned that if you want nice clear cold tea, pour cold water over the bags and steep in the fridge for several hours or overnight. I would estimate 99.9% of my coffee and tea drinking is at home. I rarely, if ever, buy drinks when I'm out and about. I think my fresh brews taste better than anything I've ever bought prepared. Oh, and I use distilled water, not tap....See Morepatty Vinson
