Rain, rain, go away!!
Comments (14)What a lovely story, Marg. My yard, which usually has at least two sittings of robins each year, and lots of birds at my feeder has been devoid of birds this year because of an 'infestation' of wild cats. A neighbour moved and left their cat, and it got together with another stray and we have cats roaming all over our yards, and using our flower beds as bathrooms. I found a 'nest' near my lilacs last week and they were feathers in it, so they are killing and eating birds, so no wonder they are staying away. Anway last weekend my neighbour and I set out a trap and we have caught nine so far!! There are three generations and the smallest are still babies. We still have to get the two big males. One of them, while trapped in the cage, growled and hissed at me, bared his teeth showing his wildness. He attacked my neighbour when he tried to get him out of the trap, so he got away. Now they won't come near the trap. We are now awaiting the Humane Society to pick them up. They have destroyed many of my plants: a new clematis, zinnias, foxgloves, and verbascum to name a few. I have spent much time trying many ways to keep them out and they all work for a time, but with all this rain you have to keep repeating the treatment and it's time consuming. I hope I can control things with just the males around. It's still raining almost every day here. When will it end? Northerner....See MoreRauin, rain, go away, hosta order came today
Comments (6)OKAy, one more time: Dean's Dream Great Escape Aristocrat Seducer Satisfaction Niagara Falls Francheska Candy Dish Alligator Shoes Borocay War Paint (I already had one but something traumatic happened to it so this was a last minute replacement). Sorry, I didn't get any pictures, it was all I could do to get them in the ground between storms. But they were nice plants, big healthy roots, multiple eyes, some slightly unfurled but most not. Which is good, considering we might get hail tonight! They were well packed and fresh. Not that I worry about getting wet, but mudding plants in is not good. When the soil is too wet, it packs too toghtly and forces the oxygen out of the soil. Besides, yes, there is lightning and lots of it! Slickers are for wimps, Ken, just get wet. There's no soap in that water, nothing to be afraid of, haha! Sandy...See MoreOT - Rain rain go away related
Comments (3)Kasem, I wish I could send you some of the rain we have experienced here. Dec was the wettest on record for us. Shabosbaby, We went down to -22c last night. We had a little bit of snow but I think we will see what you are sending our way in a few days. The snow has not slowed our pack down at all and the kitten that arrived from Florida is just in awe of the white stuff. lol He about knocked himself out on the front window trying to catch all them snowflakes. It was pretty funny. Lorie...See MoreGo Away, Irma- we don't want any...
Comments (84)Sultry, I'm so thankful you're okay, and that you checked in. I figured you probably had issues with power and/or the Internetz, but I was a bit worried that your situation might be worse than that. I'm also glad that you're staying away from chainsaws. They creep me out also, and I've never even seen that movie. I can't send you a Golden Celebration, but if you do have issues with other, unpatented roses, please let us know. Someone may have a spare that they haven't decided what to do with. My rooting success is hit-and-miss, but I am willing to try to root anything I have that you might need. I've been playing pick up sticks today, so I found this blog post about oaks automatically dropping twigs rather interesting. Take care, and please let us know if any of your other roses got a bit too much brackish water. Virginia...See Morebernardyjh
