Fortuniana does not bloom for me if I prune it. I looked it up on the web and some sites say that wood has to be 3 to 4 years old to flower. This is a lot older than I thought but would explain why it would never flowered for a year or 2 following a pruning. I would think that if you have it draping over the fence and only prune it lightly throughout the year to keep it under control, then you will get blooms but it could take a year or two. I have grown it as a mounding bush, if I tried to control it, it would stop flowering, if I let it alone it would take over the garden. I removed it. I did take cuttings and have some in very neglected pots in the back of my mats and it bloomed this year. I am curious why you would want to grow fortuniana when in Florida we have other varieties that bloom year-round and pruning doesn't stop the blooming. Good luck with it

It's not humid or that hot here. It's hot if you go inland, but I live relatively near to the coast, so it's cooler here, and it rarely goes over 85-90 before August, very low humidity (dry, very dry. I live in Wine Country near Sonoma, but more towards the coast in a cooler microclimate). Delphiniums are a huge favorite here and normally thrive in peoples' gardens in the Bay Area. Highly sold at nurseries and bloom especially in July. I do think I underwatered them for the size of the pot though.

Summer annuals like zinnia, golden cosmos, vinca. Epidendrum radicans. Jatropha (a small bush will have many red flowers until cold weather and will bring zebra longwings to sip nectar). Maybe visit a nursery to see which plants are kept in full sun now - and how they are faring. Lowes and Home Depot, for instance, have both sunny areas and shady areas. This time of year (rain-less) I keep most of my container plants, wherever they are, sitting in water or a saucer to catch the water if I add water to the top (and to keep them from rooting into the ground). I say this as a reminder that it is HOT out there and water evaporates FAST! If you haven't tried this with your poinsettias, maybe do. After all, they love to be in full sun - it's just that they should not dry out.

How about other cv.s of Pandorea jasminoides (as seen above), Thunbergia greggorii, Solanum valerianum ’Navidad’, several Passiflora cv.s, Trachelosperum jasminoides, and Dolichandra unguis-cati (Macfadyena). There are quite a few vines I feel are too vigorous (unless one has a very challenging location): Solanum laxum (jasminoides), Distictis buccinatoria (now Amphilophium), and most Lonicera.
