Comments (6)Should have the AEPF, TXV and at minimum the Honywell VisionPro Thermostat for proper control. AEPF426016C+TXV mated with the SSZ14042 is 15.0 SEER, 13.0 EER, 9.0 HSPF, ARI Ref # 1492630 Also, how did they come to the determination of the 3.5 ton sizing? Comments (7)I wanted to clarify my earlier statement about the tax credit. I don't think $1500 is trivial in any sense, regardless of who you are. But, I think in considering how there are many nice systems out there (Carrier Infinity, Lennox Signature, etc.) in the 4/5 ton sizes that don't quite qualify, and customers are turned away from these systems because of a tax credit, something is wrong. Especially in the grand scheme of things (considering how the investment is for comfort foremost and not getting a $1500 return). When the tax credit is obtainable, great. But when some members on this site have to search through multiple brands and scrutinize every possible coil matchup just to realize the qualifying match is with a third-party coil only, I say forget it and go with the best overall system for your needs. The goal of the tax credit was to stimulate purchase of higher efficiency equipment, but sometimes what it has led to is people purchasing systems that aren't geared most toward their needs to get the credit. For example, one Carrier matchup I looked up the other day required the largest furnace possible to qualify a 4 ton unit. No way. And some dealers will do that....See More4 Ton vs 1.5 Ton plus 2.5 Ton
Comments (6)2 units will give you redundancy (should one fail) and better control over heating/cooling the house evenly (if the units are installed logically). You would also have two units to maintain, however. You could consider a 2-stage zoned system, but I prefer two units over a single unit zoned when possible--zoning one unit must be done by a competent contractor if it is to work right. I'm also not a large proponent of 2-stage units unless the homeowner wants them for one reason or another. I can imagine two units would cost more because of installation requirements. While it is the way I'd go, ultimately it is your budget and your decision. If you do get one unit, make sure they balance the ductwork throughout the home to deliver proper heating/cooling throughout the entire home and/or install more than one zone. I personally have one single unit with no zones that does a great job, so really, it's the installation that matters....See MoreNeed to upgrade package Goodman 3.5 ton to 5 ton unit - 16 seer avail?
Comments (2)Make sure you get the load calcs done. The duct could be a problem and you may be better off with two stage and zoning. You will never know if you don't start from the beginning....See Morejosh02_2001
