Best way to use interior designer
Comments (2)It will depend on the designer you use. If you do not want to buy through the designer, then you will have to work that out ahead of time and pay a fee for the design work. Many designers make most of their money on commissions, but if you want the architect to contract custom furniture, then you may want an interior designer to design custom furniture for you, which I think is a good idea for the minimalist style. While I was trained as an interior designer, my current profession ( and for the past 19 years) is furniture designer, and I designed furniture for my own house as well. Typically, the fabrics available to an interior designer will not be available for retail, and so you might want to order window treatments and upholstered furniture through the designer, to make sure that the colors coordinate and also to give yourself more choices. I don't know what city you are in, and so I am not aware of what custom furniture shops are available to you, but an interior designer can order custom furniture from custom furniture companies, such as the one I work for now. Almost all of our clients are interior designers, although we do get a few architects, and on occasion we will sell to end users, but those are very special situations. If you want custom furniture, then I think it is best to buy through a designer. If you want to buy through your architect, then you should look at a portfolio of his previous work regarding custom furniture. In general, an interior designer will have much more experience with furniture than an architect....See MoreHow do I make best use of the deepest linen closet ever?
Comments (6)ShelvesThatSlide.com might be able to help you make shelves taht will be really deep, since they make custom sizes. You'd have to build a frame to attach the slides to. Shove the Elfa unit all the way to the back, thereby moving that 1 foot of space to the front, just inside the door. And call it a "step-in closet." Then attach shelves to the back of the door to jut into the air space. (put a lip on the front edge, so stuff won't fall out of the front. (8 inches deep or so; whatever works, and you can vary them if you like) Hang brooms, ironing board w/ iron, a plastic-bag organizer, the cordless vacuum cleaner, and maybe a pantry-door organizer--whatever--on the walls just inside the door. Maybe even set the vacuum in front of the Elfa shelves....See MoreBest way to make a bi-level peninsula in BHG Arch Designer?
Comments (2)Do you have a partition on the cabinet making tool? That's what I usually use. (But I have Chief Architect, the parent program to BH&G, so I don't know if you have the same.) Just size it appropriately. Or do you have a soffit? Those are quite helpful to make many things...Again, just click on it and make changes to size it appropriately, make it out of the right material, and position it. Comments (4)Guess that all depends on your comfort level with the architect plan = necessary/good idea? Sometimes a designer can be beneficial in perfecting a design that you may prefer yet just don't think you can accomplish on your own. Selecting a furniture type, interior colors, room arrangements, convienience, etc can sometimes be a daunting task and assistance from a professional designer can be of some benefit, while other times a simple "do it yourself" design is very suitable and less expensive. I am not sure it is necessary to secure the services of a designer and an architect at the same time unless you are unsure of the architects ability to draw proper plans and provide suitable space/areas for desired decor. That being said. I am sure there are those that would not undertake a major remodel without the assistance of a designer and I am certain designers will tell me I know not what I am talking about. So the decesion is yours to decide. You must only satisfy yourself and not necessarily the ideas of friends eventhough they mean well. Perhaps your friend does not feel comfortable in desiginig such a space, thus the suggestion, do you? You have now answer your own question. Good luck in your decision....See Moredaisychain Zn3b
