OK...little doubt that 1) you did NOT record as "data" but, rather, as "music" for playing as music CD and 2) inasmuch as the CD's play the tunes OK on CD-player you need have little doubt that your music files remain intact -- albeit in a format that is confusing to you computer-wise. You are missing something in the way your computer handles tunes. Too much to write here. Suggest preserve your recorded CD's where the important music resides in a safe place and then LEARN how your computer handles this information. You WILL be able to upload your preserved tunes into a computer and you WILL be able to do anything you want with them thereafter. Sorry, but there really is too much to write. This is simple widely-known stuff. I have no doubt you will be able to find locally.

I'm going to have to second the VideoHelp.com site. DVD's are just like CD's. Only they hold a lot more data. Both can be used as data storage disks. Both can be used as video disks. CD's can be used as music disks. There may be a DVD music disk but since I don't listen to music I wouldn't know about it. Disks that will be used in a DVD player need to be compatable with the DVD player. Some players support more formats than others. At the very least you will need some kind of authoring software. This is the software that will create the menues and chapters And some software will do it automatically. It all depends on how complicated or easy you want to make it. I picked the easy way out and bought for under $100 a USB turntable that connects to my computer. Software made by Cakewalk came with it as well as Audacity, but the Cakewalk software is very easy to use. I can save in different formats, burn to CD, etc. So much easier than any of the other methods I have read about. The turntable I bought is made by Audio-Technica, although there are several different brands available. I found mine by doing a search using Google, and after I decided on this brand, I searched for the best price I could find. I bought through an online merchant for a price much better than CC or BB for the same model. Sad to say, I haven't done very much with it as yet, converting only a few albums to digital, but I listen to the albums just for the fun of it. By the way, it has a dust cover, so I have it sitting on a little table next to my computer desk.

As only leaving Win98 18 months ago, kicking and screaming I admit, my position is it shouldn't matter R vs RW. I would recommend that she open My Computer and see if the drive is recognizing the disk. Unless you named the disk it should read as a series of numbers rather than the drive letter identifier. If the disk is recognized have her double click on it, or right click and select open on the appearing drop down menu. I do have one other thought. Your WMP version may be so more ahead than hers, she might not have the technical ability to open the files. You might have to redo the disk with perhaps Irfanview and ask her to install it on her system too. Irfanview worked fine on my old Win98 and still does on the one out in the garage. Plus, to avoid the possiblity use a CD-R if you do. DA
