Upper cabinet distance from base cabinets? Depth of uppers?
Comments (5)Distance to uppers will be 18" for us. We do not have many uppers though and have plenty of counter space with nothing above. Any higher is too high for my vertically challenged self (5'3")to reach the back of second shelf -- interior upper depth of 12" will hold all my plates/bowls/platters. I measured the widest one to make sure. We will have inset doors so had to be very specific as a 12" inset upper cabinet will not have 12" interior space, would have been more like 10 1/2-11"....See Moredistance between upper and lower cabinets
Comments (13)Most of mine are 18 - one is 16 1/2 I think. The shorter one is related to the microwave being on a shelf - so it could be lower - the lower cabinetry was lowered a bit too but the space in between is still a bit shy of the 18. The shorter space is where I keep my coffee maker, grinder, paper towel. Otherwise I don't have much on my counters though I do have a small TV in a different area. The shorter space is working fine for me but I think you do have to carefully consider what you're going to want on your counters. I've been looking at new coffee makers and some of those babies are quite tall - probably too tall for my shorter space. On a side note, I have 42" tall upper cabinets so lots of space I can't reach even at 5'5". I keep a little turtle stool under my sink (folded takes very little space) so I have something within easy reach when I need to get to the top shelves....See MoreKitchen window height - distance from floor?
Comments (12)When asked separately, our architect and kitchen designer both suggested the rough opening for our new sink windows at 44" AFF ("at finished floor".) I thought that may be standard distance? (Remember still though that is just the rough opening, then you have still have extra inches for window frame & casing so the visible glass is not actually at 44" above the finished floor.) And I think lavender lass is on to something- if what you don't like is the wall gap between backsplash and window, just run your backsplash up to the window casing no matter the height of the window. Or, as long as it basically coordinates with the rest of the room's moldings, I'd guess you could make your window sill chunkier if you want less wall showing, for example. I'm linking to a post with several kitchens who treated that backsplash/window sill behind the sink different ways, using a single row of subway tile, matching a countertop to the window sill (I'm not wild about it personally, but just another idea) and my favorite is photo #3-the blogger's own kitchen-with a BEAUTIFUL kitchen sink window with slab marble for the countertop, backsplash, and windowsill. I just LOVE this. Here is a link that might be useful: Cote de Texas blog marble window sill...See MoreKitchen window over sink - distance to cabinets 1" difference.
Comments (12)Painting not done yet and original unpainted cabinet areas are there to confuse. The one inch - Looks barely noticeable here, and after a second look in person feel same. Anyway will still appreciate any helpful ideas just in case things change once the walls are painted. Thanks for any advice....See Morenumbersjunkie
