Comments (29)I don't know if it is even an option but what about the new procedure with Laser. I have rescued animals for years. If I found them a home, fine. If I didn't find them a home they stayed with me. Sassy is a full blooded lab I rescued years ago, now 10. She could not get up where I had to physically get my arms around her the best I could and lift her up. My vet explained about the new laser treatment where they run a laser over the problem area. Sassy had 2 sessions and is much better unless she's on tile or the wood floor. She is also on Deramax. I may not have spelled that right. My vet told me that there have been amazing results. Normally the max is 6 sessions, if needed. I saw the difference almost immediately. Sassy was getting up by herself after the 2nd session. They cost $60 a session. She's not as good as she used to be but neither am I. Getting older does change things. I do hope perhaps this is an option. Saying goodbye does not get easier, it hurts even more now. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Take care Lynn in Alabama...See More3 dogs....please talk some sense into me! lol
Comments (5)I have two right now, our 11 year old boxer-pit mix, and the 1 1/2 y/o beagle. We keep the KCS for a few days, every few months. The boxer really likes him, too. Not just the beagle. But the boxer does get annoyed with the two if they bother him. But if he just goes and lays down, they leave him alone. He's a bit of a bully, he decides when and how he's going to play with them and if they try any funny stuff he gets mad at them. If they do get another dog, it will be a bigger dog. Though, I think it's important that I point out that we only watch eachothers dogs because they get along so well. We do have other people to take our dogs too, as do they, if we needed to. So if they get another dog, and they all don't get along anymore, they have somewhere else to take them. The same as if we get another dog and it doesn't get along with theirs. Though I do have enough levels in my house, and baby gates galore that I could keep the ones that don't get along seperated without having to lock any of them up in a bathroom or crate all day. My big guy is fairly content in the garage all day (when it's not too cold in there), he likes to be able to hear everything outside. My little one, and my friends little one, are pretty happy to be outside all day. So it wouldn't be hard to find somewhere to keep them all, where they'd be happy and seperate, if needed. We only ever keep him for a weekend, never longer than 2 nights and 2 days. When they watch our dogs, big guy stays here and just the little one goes. The big guy can have the run of the house without getting into trouble, so they come by and feed/water him, play a few times a day. My little girl has to be crated if she's going to be home alone, so it's not fair to leave her here and only have someone come twice or three times a day. And my house is large enough that having potentially 5 dogs running around at once, probably wouldnt make much of a difference, as long as it was only for a few days. We've had 5 here for a full day before. The KCS, Beagle, Boxer-pit, a daschaund and a lab/collie mix. Wasn't so bad, they all just ran around outside all day until they pooped themselves out and went to sleep. I mean obviously it's more hectic, but thats part of the fun!...See More(Pic) Send Bail Money To...
Comments (18)I have to say it looks like they definitely got the shelter requirement down. As someone else pointed out, that's got to be an expensive kennel and it's bigger than a lot of the back yards around here. It looks like they went through extra effort with the tarp and the igloo. And it looks like part, if not all of the kennel is covered too. Maybe you can use some binoculars to check to see if there's food and water in there and there is something you can do to see if someone has been there if there's a gate to get inside of the property. Take a kleenex and pry off one of the plies so it is now a very thin tissue. Cut a small half inch by 3" piece off the tissue with scissors and tape one end of the strip to the gate and the other end to the gate post and that way if the gate is opened, the tissue strip will tear. Use masking tape and put the strip lower down so it's not in plain sight. Of course if it rains it's gone but it should give you an idea if someone is going there at least once a day. All you have to do to tell if someone has been there is look and see if the strip is torn. And remember there are a lot of dog owners that have their dogs in their own yard and might only visit them once or twice a day for food and thats it. Not saying that's right but that's unfortunately the way a lot of people are. Oh, and if the strip isn't torn, that would be the time to call animal control. If the strip is torn in the morning you might put another one there to see if the person comes back in the evening and if not then that's when to call animal control to check for food and water if you can't see it from the street or sidewalk....See MoreHouse with dogs -- In need of suggestions
Comments (22)I remember throwing oranges for our cocker spaniel when i was a kid in san diego through the kitchen, off a drop into the den. Ol' valentine would fly off that curb, catch the orange, and slide 10' into the den wall. Slippery floors can be great fun for dogs, but a little hairy for older ones. They are also cold so provide a pad to keep their joints from getting cold as this is painful for older dogs as well.We have carpet now but in a house we are building are going mostly laminate w/no carpet planned. Our dogs rule our lives and we wonder who we are building the house for. I was told the reason females do the funky scratch dance before laying down is that by instinct, whether they have had pups or not, it's a thing they do when carrying young to pad the area where they are laying to make it more comfortable for them as well as the pups inside. In the wild its to remove any hard substances such as rocks, etc. Hey mag77, finally saw that cream reunion concert on pbs. It was great to see them jammin' again!...See More- 10 years ago
