I was hoping scrappy would join the conversation. I just snapped a pic of mine and you can see it does not splash with the faucet on regular flow. I believe you need to choose the faucets carefully to fit your use, especially if wall mounted. One thing I'd like to mention though is that I would not want to give up the shelf to hand washing. That is my favorite prep area. As I've used my sink for six months now, I've developed patterns; I use the right 3/4's for prep and the area to the left of the drain for dirty/transitional stuff and hand washing. Hand washing is a main reason I went with the Kohler. My DH is not trainable regarding this and it's one of the reasons we chose the stages. I did consider this in the planning stage and have my fridge to the right of the landing counter, the trash and recycle directly below the center of the sink and DW to the left. We considered two faucets but ultimately went with one Kohler Karbon. It reaches all corners and i love that I do not have to hold it. I love it as much as my sink. The shelf is very handy during prep. That's where I open packages, put my prep scraps, actually it changes jobs continually and I have to say it is the most active part of my sink and I would not want hand washing there. I also place my small dish drainer there for cleanup. This is my typical setup except I usually use small colanders on the grate, then slide them under my cutting boards to keep the left clear for hand washing. In your case, I would consider a wall mount Karbon on the shelf side and the Hi-rise on the left.

I just posted a question about the Kohler 45 . . . so I've been thinking on this subject lately. While yours is a question with loads of wiggle room for personal choices, I have several thoughts on your proposal: This is a sink you buy because you want it to serve you well as you prep food. Yet you're talking about eliminating ALL your adjacent storage for prep items (knives, vegetable peelers, hamburger patty press, and the hundred other items you'd use in prepping food). And you're eliminating your trash can, which is pretty essential for a prep area. In exchange, you're getting a second dishwasher. Essentially what you're doing is setting up your island as a clean-up area . . . but you're filling it with a very expensive prep sink, when a plain old large sink would serve just as well for what you're describing. In conclusion, I'd ask this question: What is the purpose of this area? I think you need to clarify that, and then you'll be prepared to move forward. I completely understand. I never would have paid that much for a sink either. I ordered a blanco super single. The plumber provided a double sink to the counter fabricator instead. They looked all over to find me a single sink that would fit the hole cut for a double. We initially tried Kohler strive which seemed basically same sink but center drain. It didn't work but the 8 degree did. I didn't pay the difference since it was their fault and the alternative was to get a new slab of granite. I would never have spent so much on a sink before, but now I've had it honestly I would sacrifice something else bc I love it that much. It works really well for our family, and I use it many times a day so I really appreciate it. Good luck, I also had no idea it was so hard to find a single sink not to mention around here it is not common so the plumber, contractor and counter guys all thought I was crazy for insisting on a single instead of just taking the double that fit the hole they cut.

Joseph the stone is 2cm. I'm not sure with the way we configured cabs that we can change sink unless someone else makes a 45" sink with ledge same size as this one. So it'll be another gut job if we change sinks
