You could certainly have them painted and glazed for a distressed look, but in my experience taking them back to a wood stained appearance like you show in the photo, if even possible, would be a costly and time consuming endeavor.

And you may have to refinish the hardwoods to have them complement any new cabinet color, except perhaps painted cabs. The floors look very similar in color to the cabs; are you okay with those?

Thank you all. If we change the cabinets, the floors need to be refinished too. We will anyway be changing the granite and backsplash. That might change the look to my liking. Too much red tone in the cabinets is bothering me.

The cabinets look attractive and the appliances look new, so I wouldn't let the color of the cabs deter me from buying a house that otherwise fit my needs. If there are other things about the house you're not so hot on and are on the fence about it, then cab colors can be another reason to keep looking.

It is a beautiful kitchen. The "easiest" most common would be to go white. I always find it so sad when beautiful finishes are abandoned due to style/preference choices.

The cab stain color may be affected by the lighting in the room...it appears to be artificially lit. Have you seen the cabs in natural lighting? The cabinets appear to be quite nice.

If I liked everything about a house except the color of the cabs and there wasn't another home contender that I also liked as much I would buy it and then decide on what I wanted to do with the cabs after living in it a while.

Are they really that red in real life?

First, change the light bulbs. Second, if you've lived with them for a while, tried different wall paint and accessories, seriously consider gel stain (General Finishes), perhaps Antique Walnut. It would be quite a project but IMO relatively easy to achieve a professional-looking result.
